Album mới nhất của Deftones sau 6 năm (từ sự kiện Saturday Night Wrist), là album đầu tiên thiếu bassist Chi Cheng, là album không sử dụng ProTool, được coi như mang những nét đặc trưng nhất của thời Adrenaline và White Pony.
"1 lời thì thầm có thể còn mạnh hơn tiếng gào thét", những bài mới của Deftones trong DE đã không còn ảm đạm, 1 cách nhìn tươi sáng hơn sau biến cố của Chi.
Các đánh giá của các trang web/nhà phân tích với album là tích cực. Riêng critic Nick Greer-Sputnik cho DE 5/5 (classic), với nhận xét:

Diamond Eyes not only attains a yet higher peak for Deftones' dreamy, hopeful aesthetic, but ingeniously combines this aesthetic with the heaviness, inventiveness, and ambiance that made White Pony such a profound record. Diamond Eyes is union of the two Deftones: the metallic, desperate, and sadistic and the melodic, yearning, and sensitive.

The remainder of the album adds dimensions to this sound by exploring the way it functions in many different vibes and flavors - relentless: "Rocket Skates," waterlogged: "Sextape," uplifting: "976-EVIL" - all with overwhelmingly positive results. By the end of the album, this sound is rendered so fully and beautifully that previous efforts to combine them (i.e. their previous two albums) seem adolescent by comparison. Diamond Eyes is wild and serene, and I can honestly say its Deftones' best album to date.

Xin lỗi, Deftones chưa bao giờ là Numetal . Deftones có thể underrated, nhưng nếu gọi là Numetal... đó là sỉ nhục thành quả của Chino, Chi và Abe. .
Ngoài lề, nhưng Numetal hay gì gì thì ko chắc nghe/cover đc The Cure.
