During the making of The Catalyst video you may have noticed directorial notes the team were using as a focus point to drive the creative process. LPA member Jesse has exclusively transcribed them for the LPA and you can read them below for some interesting insight to the video.

A TREATMENT FOR WARNER BROTHERS RECORDS BY JOE HAHN
The inspiration for this video comes from J. Robert Oppenheimer's reaction to the world's first nuclear explosion in New Mexico.
In an effort to verbalize what was then indescribable, he quoted a passage from the Bhagavad Gita, the classic Vedic text:
"If the radiance of a thousands suns were to burst forth at once in the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One. I am mighty, world-destroying Time"
When an atom splits it releases other neutrons, and he was quick to realize that under the right conditions those neutrons could go on to split other atoms in a chain reaction.
This would lead to one of two things: a steady generation of energy in the form of heat or a huge explosion.
If each splitting atom caused one released neutron to split another atom, the chain reaction was said to be "critical" and would create a steady release of that energy.
But if each fission event released two, three, or more neutrons that went on to split other atoms, the chain reaction was deemed "super critical" and would rapidly cascade into an almost instantaneous, massive, explosive release of energy.
My goal with this video is to encapsulate the sentiment of the next LINKIN PARK album and our new direction; we will not perform in (undecipherable....) ... in videos of the past.
This video will show the power of the singular vs. the power of the multitude. The Intention of splitting an atom was to generate nuclear fission. Inspired by the power of a single atom splitting can emit the power of a thousand suns. The beauty of destruction.
Để ý đoạn bôi đen, tuy nói có hơi bị khoa học, nhưng vào clip dù là đã đọc qua concept nhưng cũng rất khó để nhận ra được nó.
Ok, có để ý mấy người chạy toán loạn chứ? Họ chính là các "nguyên tử" (er...Atom?), Mike là "chất xúc tác" của phản ứng, những người đeo mặt nạ là "critical condition". Chester có thể là đang miêu tả quá trình của phản ứng (như là lúc nổi lúc chìm => unstable). Ở đoạn "lift me up, let me go" là đang nói đến giai đoạn cao nhất, khi các phân tử phản ứng cực mạnh với nhau tạo ra những luồng năng lượng cực mạnh. Tất cả được giảm tải xuống bằng những bộ màu như trong clip. Khúc cuối khi chaz dẹo là lúc phản ứng kết thúc.
Đây là cảm nhận cá nhân về clip sau khoản chục lần xem lại, có 1 bài phân tích giống như thế nhưng chi tiết hơn, mò lại thì mất đâu rồi.
Cái phản ứng này là lúc 1 quả bomb nguyên tử phát nổ, các atom chạy toán loạn, phản ứng, trung gian là chất xúc tác, sau 1 lúc rất ngắn thì phát nổ => kiểu như tận thế ấy mà
Có thể coi là khi bomb nổ, mọi nguời chạy toán loạn, xô đẩy nhau => sẽ có nguời chết. Và lúc cuối, BAM!
Coi thế mà nó sâu xa đấy, ko như cái New Divide

With the past videos they were just another music video with a cool effect or possibly some type of a story...ehh sorta. But watching the catalyst video, I actually feel like things are different. As if it's a whole different standard and level of a video. I feel the emotions that the band tried to create and capture in the video....I understand the story, the metaphors, the strength of the lyrics. It just isn't the standard music video you see on mtv, it's more like a movie, a story.
Tính ra thì The Catalyst ăn đứt LOATR, BIO nếu xét riêng về MTM era. Còn nếu nói thêm về HT era và M era thì mình nghi mình còn cho rằng TC hơn cả khối thứ
