For help downloading and installing DLC see Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ. This FAQ is only trying to cover the issues that can occur while playing after you get the DLC successfully installed.
Table of Contents:
1) DLC Content Disappeared
* DLC items are missing
* Soldier’s Peak no longer on map
* Shale is acting weird.
2) Sulcher’s Pass (Felix) and/or Levi are missing.
3) Travelling to Ostagar - Stuck at Loading Screen
4) Blood Dragon Armor isn’t showing up in my inventory.
5) DLC Content shows as unauthorized
1) Hey my DLC Items Disappeared (Ack! Sten is naked!)
Soldier’s Peak was on the world map, but its gone now
Shale is screwed up (Talent’s not showing correctly, speaking to him crashes the game, can only get the Golem activation conversation)
Red Alert! You have been hit by the Disappearing DLC Glitch. The game got confused, decided you no longer had the rights to the DLC and stripped it from you. This can have dramatic effects on your game, leaving the DLC in a half reset state, and just in general screwing it up. It may even appear that older saves are corrupt as the game will remove the DLC upon loading until you resolve the rights issue.
Any saves made after the DLC is stripped are bad. The only possible way to recover them is to use the developers console.
No known cause, though it may be related to the game losing connection with the server while you’re playing. If you have ongoing problems with this it might be best to play logged out.
What to do:
* Immediately exit the game completely.
* Restart
* From the Main Menu go to Downloadable Content, Installed Content Tab and make sure all your DLC is authorized.
At this point you should be back into a good state with regards to the game recognizing your DLC, but you now have to figure out how to go forward.
Go back through your saves looking for the last good one made before the DLC was removed. Clues that it is good include:
DLC Items are equipped/in inventory (chest contents are not a good indicator).
Warden's Keep and Shale related quests accurately reflect their state in the journal.
Soldier's Peak and/or Honnleath are on the World Map if you've already unlocked them.
Speaking to Shale gets you normal conversation.
If that’s not too far back, Congratulations! Load it up and keep playing from there.
If your last good save is a ways back and you don’t want to replay hours of the game, you will need to use the developers console to fix your game. There is a really good thread on how to do that here.
2) Sulcher’s Pass doesn’t show up on my map
Levi isn’t in camp to give me the Warden’s Keep Quest.
Bann Loren's Lands aren't on the map.
All of the main DLC’s have a separate piece, the “Offer”, which is where the quest givers (Levi, Felix, and Elric) live.
Check whether you have the Offer part installed
Go to My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\Offers and look for the following directories.
dao_prc_ocp_2 (The Stone Prisoner)
http://na.llnet.bioware.cdn.ea.com/.../offers/DAO_PRC_OCP_2/DAO_PRC_OCP_2_1.0.dazip
dao_prc_onrx_1 (Warden’s Keep)
http://na.llnet.bioware.cdn.ea.com/...ffers/DAO_PRC_ONRX_1/DAO_PRC_ONRX_1_1.0.dazip
dao_prc_ocp_1 (Return to Ostagar)
If they are missing you will need to manually download and install them. (Even if they're there you might try reinstalling them just in case.)
The Stone Prisoner (Offer only)
Warden's Keep (Offer only)
Return to Ostagar (Offer Only)
Right click on the above link for the DLC you have having problems with and select “Save Target As”, or the equivalent in your browser. Save the .dazip file to your computer. If your browser tries to rename it to .zip file, rename it back to .dazip after download.
Find the daupdater.exe application, it is usually located in the bin_ship directory in your Dragon Age Installation (For example C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daupdater.exe) Double click on it to open it.
Click on Select DAZIPs. Navigate to where you have saved the .dazip file and open it.
Now the .dazip file will appear on the Install tab. Select it on the list and click Install Selected.
Restart the game and see if that has resolved things.
If it hasn’t, try forcing the DLC to reinitialize itself.
* Go to the Game’s Main Menu
* Go the Installed Content Tab under Downloadable Content
* Find the DLC you are having problems with on the list of DLC.
* Clear the checkmark next to the DLC to disable it.
* Go back to the Main Menu and load your last save. When it gives you a message about DLC being disabled, Force Load the save.
* Make a new save with the DLC disabled.
* Exit back to the Main Menu
* Go back to the Installed Content Tab
* Click the empty square next to the DLC to get the checkmark back and reenable the DLC.
* Load the new save you made.
If none of that works
You can use the Developers Console to warp yourself to the necessary locations to get the quest to start. Instructions in this thread
3) Travelling to Ostagar - Stuck at Loading Screen
Some people with this problem have reported issues with getting stuck at the loading screen travelling to Ostagar while playing the Return to Ostagar DLC. It appears that this issue is related to Return to Ostagar not getting properly installed. Try manually reinstalling Return to Ostagar to resolve this issue.
Return to Ostagar
Right click on the above link and select “Save Target As”, or the equivalent in your browser. Save the .dazip file to your computer. If your browser tries to rename it to a .zip file, rename it back to .dazip after download.
4) Blood Dragon Armor isn’t showing up in my inventory.
If your armor suddenly vanished take a look at section 1 and make sure that you weren't hit with the Missing DLC glitch.
Playing Dwarf Nobles without Patch 1.02 will result in your armor being removed from you during the course of the origin story. Also sometimes when its first installed it doesn't show up. Use this procedure to force the armor to appear in your inventory.
* Go to the Installed Content Tab under Downloadable Content
* Clear the checkmark next to the Blood Dragon Armor
* Load your last save, and when it gives you a message about disabled DLC, force load the save.
* Make a new save.
* Go back out to the Installed Content Tab and reenable the Blood Dragon Armor.
* Load your new save and you should see the Blood Dragon Armor Chestpiece in your inventory. All other pieces are available for sale from the merchant in the party camp.
5) DLC is unauthorized and the game won’t let me load my saves.
As long as you play logged in the game tries to connect to the server to verify your rights to the content. It cannot do that without the Dragon Age Origins Content Updater service It is supposed to start when the game launches, but there is a timing issue where it is not always started before the game tries to check with the server. Try manually starting it before you start the game and see if that lets you load your saves:
1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
3.) Right click it and select START
If you have ongoing issues with it starting automatically you might want to try the beta fix, which should help resolve most of those issues.
If you have moved your Dragon Age Installation, Windows may still be looking for the "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update" executable, DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe, in the old location.
To check where Windows is looking for it:
* Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
* Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
* Right click and select Properties
* Check Path to Executable and make sure that it is the correct path for where DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe is in your installation. (Generally located in the bin_ship directory, but a search of your harddrive can find it.)
If the path is incorrect, its a relatively simple registry fix. If you are uncomfortable using the registry, you could also follow the instructions on how to uninstall and reinstall the service in section 3.2.4 of the Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ .
To fix it in the registry:
* Run Regedit.exe
* Search for all references to DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe
* When you find the ones that are under DAUpdaterSvc, update the ImagePath key to point to the correct location for DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe.[/spoil]
