About the 'start over' part - No, you will NOT start over.
You guys are extremely and utterly insanely lucky, tho.. Originally, BOI uses MSSQL Database to handle your Account Logins/Registrations/ZEN-Handling (MSSQL=Windows), much like every other server is already doing as well. It's the basic Auth for BOI.
However, we at Oracle are smarter than that. We used MySQL Auth to handle Accounts, ZEN, etc, through MySQL (MySQL=Linux). That way everything database-related is handled through Linux, allowing for better backups, and smoother Scripts/Data-handling.
So, if we had used the original MSSQL Auth as all the other servers do, the accounts would've been lost. Luckily, that is not the case, and all of your Accounts / Characters / everything is still intact and existing. We still have it all on the currently-running Linux Server and ready to roll when the Windows Server is ready.
@Unexpected: I always back up my work. I still have the very first source of Evolution back in June 2012, stacking all the way up to date. I have it all. But, Evolution was not a good server, especially not a valid base-source for a new server. Hence, I started from scratch.
