TAIPEI, Taiwan - A man in Bali district of New Taipei City yesterday killed his son in an alleged accident which transpired following a reported quarrel over the progression of a popular Japanese video game.
Bali police and fire department authorities received an ambulance call at 5 a.m. in the morning yesterday, reporting that a physical altercation which resulted in an individual being injured had transpired on Zhongshan Street section one in Bali.
Authorities and emergency responders found a 16-year-old male with the last name Liu at the scene. Reportedly, Liu was covered in blood with two puncture wounds on his chest. Liu had no sign of life, and was rushed to the Mackay Memorial Hospital at Tamsui (淡水馬偕醫院). Following an hour of resuscitation attempts, Liu was pronounced dead at 6 a.m..
After sealing off the crime scene, police arrested Liu's 36-year-old father and Liu's stepmother for further questioning.
Preliminary investigations revealed Liu's father as the assailant. Reportedly, Liu's father had woken up in the early morning to surf the Internet. Liu, who was playing video games, later invited his father to join him on a cooperative round of popular Japanese video game "Dynasty Warriors," a game based on famous Chinese novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," which consists of a series of "Beat 'Em Up" tactical action games that feature co-op missions.
As the father was a novice, the victim had begun to consistently mock the culprit, prompting the father and Liu to engage in a heated verbal argument.
The argument later turned physical with Liu allegedly retrieving a fruit knife. The father stated that to deter his son, he had grabbed the knife away from Liu. However, Liu is said to have tackled his father to retrieve the knife, and received two wounds during the fight. Reportedly, Liu's father fell silent following news of his son's death.
