So Mulan is now a stoic blank slate of a character who has always possessed superhero like powers since childhood due to an abnormally high concentration of chi, which her family has encouraged her to keep hidden. The shape shifting witch gets her powers from a high level of evil chi.

Sáng đọc review đã buồn cười rồi, mời các thầy:

Caro’s Mulan, in contrast, is yet another superhero origin story, the protagonist (Liu Yifei) facing off in part against yet another psychologically wounded villainess (Gong Li) longing for a world that would accept female power.

But Mulan’s most dynamic relationship isn’t with the shape-shifting witch Xianniang, the soldiers' commanding officer (Donnie Yen) or her functionally nameless comrades in arms (Yoson An, Jimmy Wong, Doua Moua, Chen Tang and Jun Yu), but with her qi — here a kind of supernatural strength and endurance that she’d been taught, as a girl, to suppress.

“Mulan” introduces its title character (Yifei Liu) as an unruly young girl, ill-suited to marriage but already adept at martial arts, courageous enough to step in when a messenger arrives with terrible news. The emperor (Jet Li) demands a male conscript from every family to help defend against battle-scarred Böri Khan (Jason Scott Lee), who suggests a cross between Attila the Hun and a Hells Angels squad leader. Already wounded in an earlier war, her father has two daughters and no choice but to offer himself in service, at which point Mulan intervenes, stealing his sword and armor and setting off on one of those “Lord of the Rings”-style cross-country journeys.

Defined by her determination, she mostly keeps to herself, which deprives her of meaningful human relationships during the mid-section of the film. Underwritten as she is, Mulan is handily upstaged by Xianniang (Gong Li), a powerful sorceress invented for the film who gives Mulan a strong female adversary. She’s more than that, actually: A shape-shifting hawk, Xianniang embodies the vengeful bitterness of a woman misunderstood and ultimately exiled by a sexist society. “I was a girl like you when people turned on me,” she says, tempting Mulan to the movie’s equivalent of the Dark Side. “Mulan” features more than its share of “Star Wars” references, none more obvious than the idea that her strength derives from her chi, if only she could learn to control it

This vision of Mulan, scripted by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Lauren Hyneck, and Elizabeth Martin, hinges on the strength of her innate “qi,” a strength of spirit only meant for warriors. More specifically, for male warriors. Even as a youngster, both Mulan and her family know that her obvious skills with feather-light footwork and the kind of hand-eye coordination you just can’t teach aren’t befitting a woman.

Qua review thì phần nội dung phim kiểu giữ lại cái cốt của bản hoạt hình và trộn với Star Wars. Phần nhìn thì đánh nhau bung xòe múa lụa theo lối Asian wuxia từng thịnh ở Hollywood tầm hai chục năm trước như Ngọa hổ tàng long, Anh hùng, Thập diện mai phục... Ngoại cảnh thì hoành tráng kiểu LoTR.

Tóm lại Mulan bản animated đã chết, đây là Mulan của Disney+ cài vào =))

Kể cũng nâng cấp ảo phết. Mulan là nhân vật ko có khả năng gì đặc biệt mà chế thành như vầy, về sau làm live action những Ariel, Rapunzel, Elsa chắc sức mạnh lên cỡ thần thánh, đánh đấm tung toé chứ ko chơi :))
