Time for Mythbusters
I've spent yesterday afternoon and evening testing and uploading the the videos about main German armament against three bombers - B-24, B-17 and B-25. Our goal was to test various areas of a bomber structure, an see if they are destructible and how much it takes to destroy them (or how much they can soak).
For test purposes we have used the Bf-109 with single cannon to get more accurate view, though we didnt exactly count the amount of 30 mm/20 mm as it truly varies. We were rather looking for situations where certain part of a plane can take incredible amount of hits and I guess we found such areas, unfortunately it looks like there is a lot of such area.
Types of ammunition used :
- MG-151 - Air Targets
- Mk 108 - Universal
Our first test was conducted with Juliet_Six (special thanks to him for help  ). This is a B-25 and treat it more like a control group than a full test, we just wanted to have reference.

I guess you can see the things yourself and in general we can say that B-25 can take some punishment from Mg-151, but Mk-108 is a different story.
Now lets move to Fortresses and Liberators as those two are most interesting for everyone and those two got some very weird behaviors. This test was conducted with Rojan32 (again, special thanks to him).
First will be general test of B-24 against Mk-108 cannon, we can start from engines :

[/spoil]
As you can see, the area between fuselage and inner engines seems to be a true weakspot - we need only 1-2 shells to cut of the wing (which is wierd) or cause plane explosion (you will see it later on B-17), which seems to be historical - that area was most vulnerable part of bomber:

But on the other hand ... outer engines area seems to be extraordinarily tough. The amount of 30 mm shells it soaked was bigger than expected.
The last two parts are the most ... strange and I'm not going to put a comment here - you will judge yourself.

B-24 wing under fire from Mk-108 (though in this one I missed a lot of shots, but even from those hits ... I guess you can see the result):

Now something lighter, a comparison with Mg-151:

The second plane, B-17 doesnt seem to be different in behavior.
First is a B-17 tail tested with Mk-108

Than we have left an right wing fuel tanks which proved to be a weakspot and good area to aim:

The inner engine area is best place to aim with Mk-108:

[/spoil]
The outer-engine is a bit worse place to aim with Mk-108:

The wingtip area is also not bad place, but as you see plane goes down but I was able to shot out his wingtip (had some technical issues while recording this so might not be pleasant watch):

We even decided to try to simulate the "combat" situation and try to aim on weakspot in a dive, results are here :

Here you can see the tests of the Mg 151 against the engines of the B-17:

The conclusions ?
I guess you can decide yourself after seeing this. Some of course will raise the argument that I should repeat that, but honestly we have Easter and I have more interesting things to do. There are areas which take incredible amount of hits - they seem to be indestructible, and there are ares which are weakspot and allow you to kill bomber easily - but it requires good approach, some skills in firing and I guess a bit of luck ?
My opinion ?
Are the 4 engine bombers indestructible ?
Are the DM borked ?
Special thanks to the SmackyChot for his help in testing.
