10 lí do tại sao Pacific rim lại là phim đáng xem nhất năm:
1. Guillermo del Toro & đạo diễn hình ảnh Travis Beacham
Little needs to be said about this visionary director, who brought us the likes of Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth. The man is a genius and knows how to deliver great films on a relatively low budget. Pacific Rim is Guillermo del Toro's first film in 5 years and is in no-way a "low-budget" film. Del Toro is at the helm of a nearly $200 million film - the largest he's ever directed.
But the big budget is not what will make this film rock - it's Guillermo del Toro's passion for the genre. In fact, Del Toro completed filming and production, under budget, saving the studios some cash - which they could put towards extra marketing and promotion. Pacific Rim has brought back all of Del Toro's childhood passions for anime, Mecha and Kaiju mythologies. He genuinely cares for the genre and has put his heart and soul into this film. A passionate director always leads to a spectacular film.
2. Dàn diễn viên ưu tú
Guillermo del Toro really wanted to break the trend of one country saving the world in previous sci-fi/action movies and instead made the whole world save the world in Pacific Rim. So, Del Toro really aimed to diversify the cast, to represent each Country respectively.
Pacific Rim's cast is made up of a variety of talented actors. First off, we have Sons of Anarchy star, Charlie Hunnam who plays the role of Raleigh Becket, an up and coming Jaeger pilot with a lot to prove. Next we have Ron Perlman, who worked with Del Toro on the Hellboy films, as well as stared in Sons Of Anarchy with Charlie Hunnam. Ron portrays the role of Hannibal Chow.
We also have Prometheus star, Idris Elba portraying the role of PPDC Marshall Stacker Pentecost - the leader and emotional center of the film, responsible for saving Rinko Kikuchi's character(One of eight actors of Asian descent nominated for an Oscar in an acting category), Mako Mori when she was a child, following a Kaiju attack. Idris Elba's acting career is full of major hits, and he brings a great sense of power and command to the role.
Next we have Japanese actress, Rinko Kikuchi, who portrays the role of Mako Mori - a kick-ass heroine who was terrorized by the Kaiju at a very young age. She co-pilots the Jaeger GIPSY DANGER, alongside Charlie Hunnam's character.
We also have Charlie Day, Max Martini, Clifton Collins Jr., Joe Pingue, Robert Kazinsky, Robert Maillet and Don Shirey. A stellar cast for an epic film. For more on Pacific Rim's cast, click here.
3. Ý tưởng mới
Kaiju movies have been around for decades, and Mecha have been present in Japanese culture, comics and films for ages also. But there have never been a live-action, Hollywood cross-over of the two in a brawl-style film. Pacific Rim is the first of its kind, and will undoubtedly not be the last. Screenwriter, Travis Beacham worked closely with Guillermo del Toro to bring us a completely new, science fiction universe which will have the potential to expand over multiple films, games and comics. Pacific Rim is the beginning of its own franchise - and one that I hope to see more of in the coming years.
4. Quái khổng lồ - The Kaiju
All this talk of Kaiju sounds awesome - but unless you grew up with anime, and Godzilla films in your life, you may not be aware of what exactly a "Kaiju" is. To put it in simplest terms, the word Kaiju is Japanese for Monster - a destructive, massive force of nature. Kaiju films are very prominent in eastern culture, specifically Japan, with films like Godzilla and Gamera. But those are only two popular Kaiju titles out of hundreds of different films.
The Kaiju in Pacific Rim are more Alien than mutated Earth-dwelling creatures like Godzilla or Gamera. Instead, these Kaiju come from another dimension in time, through a portal which opens up in the depths of the Pacific Ocean. The first Kaiju emerges near San Francisco and gives the world a shock.
The events in Pacific Rim take place 20 years after the first Kaiju emerged from the portal - in a time where humanity is on the brink of extinction. The Kaiju are relentless, and keep coming despite efforts to fend them off and so Humanity needed to think quickly - developing the Pan Pacific Defense Corps and the Jaeger program...
5. Robot khổng lồ - The Jaegers
What's the difference between giant robots and mechas? Why should you NOT compare the Jaegers in Pacific Rim to the autobots in Transformers? Because - robots are robots, artificial intellegence, unmanned machines. The Jaegers are manned robotic mechas, totally different - way cooler.
The term Jaeger (pronounced Yae-gur) is German for "Hunter", and requires two pilots to function. The reason for the dual-pilot requirement is due to the fact that the Jaegers are simply too large for one Human being to handle.
When the Jaeger program was being developed, testing revealed that piloting a Jaeger was too stressful on the brain for one, solo pilot, and so the Jaegers were formatted to work with two pilots. Each pilot controlling one half of the Jaeger, much like the two hemispheres of the Human brain.
There are 5 main Jaegers featured in Pacific Rim. Using the photo above as reference, from left to right we have the Chinese Jaeger, CRIMSON TYPHOON, which uses three pilots instead of the conventional two - this is because Crimson has an additional arm attachment, which wields spinning scythe blades!
Next we have the all-American, GIPSY DANGER, the "star" Jaeger in Pacific Rim. Then we have the Mark V Jaeger, STRIKER EUREKA, and then the Russian tank - CHERNO ALPHA. The final Jaeger is not as prominent in the viral marketing, and that's the Japanese Jaeger, COYOTE TANGO.
These 300-foot tall mech-warriors are epic in every way, and deliver a serious sense of scale on the big screen. They are Humanity's only hope in defeating the Kaiju threat.
6. thương hiệu mới
Pair the passionate directing of Guillermo del Toro with the fan-boy driven mentality of screenwriter Travis Beacham and you have the groundwork for a monumental, summer blockbuster. Fans have expressed their appreciation and adoration for the works of Del Toro and Beacham throughout the course of Pacific Rim's viral marketing and release of its prequel graphic novel, Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero.
In fact, Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham are so vested and confident in Pacific Rim, that they're already brainstorming ideas for a Pacific Rim sequel! It is without a doubt that fans will find great pleasure in watching Pacific Rim and hopefully enough drive from the general public will help give this film the spotlight it deserves. Superhero movies and zombie movies are getting old - they've been done to death. Pacific Rim opens up a new world to explore, it breaks boundries of the current trend and sets out to re-invent adventure, science fiction and eastern culture, to a western audience.
These are the kinds of films that deserve our attention, these are the films that should be regarded as works of art, because they create new paths and new universes to explore. To add on top of that, having Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham so enthusiastic about it, to the point of contemplating a sequel before the film has even hit theaters - just goes to show how unbelievably awesome this movie is and how badly you need to watch it when it comes out this July.
7. Kĩ thuật Dolby ATMOS mới
On top of having a kick-ass story and kick-ass director, Pacific Rim will also reap the benefits of the latest Dolby "ATMOS" audio technology. From Dolby's official website for the new product, here is what ATMOS will bring to the big screen, when watching Pacific Rim this July:
"Dolby Atmos delivers audiences a more natural and realistic soundfield, transporting them into the story with a lifelike sensory experience. Developed with input from professionals throughout the movie industry, Dolby Atmos represents a dynamic shift in audio, reinventing the traditional surround sound methodology and offering a complete platform for sound now and well into the future." - (Official Page)
Going by that description, you can imagine how immersive it will be, to be watching giant mechas beating down on giant Kaiju monsters in an IMAX theater, with this new, innovative audio technology. It will further enhance every minute detail, this film has to offer.
8.Kĩ xảo điện ảnh ILM
I know I probably had you convinced to go see Pacific Rim from point #1, after I said "Guillermo del Toro", but just in case you're not completely sold on the movie just yet, you will be now...
Pacific Rim's special effects were done in part by one of the world's leading visual effects studios - ILM. They have helped bring Guillermo del Toro's vision to life, with the latest in visual effects technology - bringing even more detail to the intricate designs of the Kaiju, Jaegers and sets in which they battle.
9. Dựng cảnh thật
On top of having a world-leading visual effects studio to enhance the look of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro had massive practical sets built, which gave a much more real feel to the film and the actors who would perform inside them. One major set piece which was constructed was the inside of the Jaeger cockpit - which was about 2 stories high and rested on a bed of hydraulics, which would move and shake the set while filming, like a roller-coaster, to give a real sense of action to the scenes in which they were used. Actors would be strapped into these pose-able harnesses while the set would literally move under them. At the same time, they would often get sprayed with massive amounts of water, and have sparks and fire being projected from the walls of the set piece.
Whenever you have a physical set, you always get a more real acting experience, and that translates onto film. It also gives the audience a more immersive experience when viewing. Paired with the new Dolby ATMOS technology mentioned above, Pacific Rim will be a truly, masterful experience.
10. Mở màn cho Godzilla
Of course we can't forget about Legendary Pictures' other giant monster movie - GODZILLA which will hit theaters May 16th, 2014 in 3D. Pacific Rim, though being significantly different than the upcoming Godzilla film - does set the stage for more giant monster movies. It will open up this genre to western audiences and will hopefully spawn a number of Kaiju films in the future.
But Godzilla is the next tent-pole on the studio's list, and Pacific Rim will only help in generating the hype for it. There have been rumors that a teaser trailer for Godzilla will be attached to Pacific Rim this July - however unconfirmed, its still another great reason to go see this film in all its glory, in 10 days. You never know!
Pacific Rim will deliver on a truly epic scale, one most western audiences have never experienced before. I truly hope Pacific Rim rakes it in, because as a sci-fi and Kaiju movie fan, I want to see more movies like this. It's new, it's original and it's got Guillermo del Toro at the helm. What more can you ask for?
