This FAQ is honestly not gonna be that in depth..if you've never played a MH game before it won't matter, and I just suggest you make sure you aren't on a cursed table. Otherwise either look over the previously linked to charm table list and pick out one that has charms you want. Or here are some short descriptions of the 'specialties' of the non-cursed tables.
Table 1: This is considered a very general table. If you really don't know what to get, as you plan to try everything. This is probably you're choice, the best charms are a good mix of ranged and melee skills.
Table 2: This one is usually seen as another generalized table..but if you're choosing tables go with 1. This table isn't cursed..but table 1 is better in most ways.
Table 3: Another all purpose, but apparently has a larger number of good charms that also have evasion.
Table 4: Melee oriented table, considered really good if you plan to use the lance mostly. But ok for any melee oriented character.
Table 5: Some evasion, some hearing protection (so you spend less time stunned when a monster roads). Otherwise apparently very compatible with heavy bowguns.
Table 6: Pretty well set for Melee again, with a few things good for ranged characters. Evasions, elemental unlocks, and several easy to use skills are seen here.
Table 7: Generalized Evasion table..while most others had good or ok evasion..this one seems to be a table that lets you have good evasion skills mixed with skills good for many different weapons.
Basically evasion everywhere.
Table 8: Again evasion is good here, but less so than Table 7. In return you have more charms related to guard.
Table 9: A table good for gun users, a few melee charms but its very rare.
Table 10: Known for being THE table if you plan to focus on melee. Has many charms with skillsets good for melee. And the charms most believe best for melee are here.
Table 13: Nothing standout, but everything here is just pretty well solid and middle of the line.
Table 14: Another table good for melee characters. But has a few noteworthy charms that are good for ranged characters, in case you feel like mixing it up.
A complete guide to what the charm tables are, and how you can pick which you want, the differences between them and other questions.
1. Whats a charm?
A Charm is an additional piece of equipment you can use in conjunction with your other equipment, you aquire it through mining certain areas and completing certain quests.
There are several rarities of charm, each giving different possibilities of stat combinations from your respective table.
2. What are Charm Tables?
A charm table is one of several lists of possible combinations of charms you can get in the game. Upon character creation you are assigned a table and thats it, you dont get to pick, you have no say in it, its done behind the screen and you need to play about an hour into the game to be able to find out which you have,
3. Why should i care which table i get?
Well...for the most part you shouldnt. Its only for those who are totally focused on getting perfect sets, or those who absolutely hate missing out on something that would be great for them. For the most part, most tables have most combinations of stats in some amount.
If you are after a mix of certain skills, chances are they will be in most tables, but there will be better ones in certain tables, higher numbers.. So if you know what you want, it can be good to spend a while making sure you have the one that will make you happy, end game.
4. Finding out which table you have.
For this there are 2 possible methods.
The first is simply aquiring several charms and checking the full list of charm tables which can be found on a programme downloadable here
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/683294-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/65655717
This displays a full list of all possible combinations on all charm tables.
Simply put. Enter the stats of your charms and you will eliminate ones that your charms dont fall into and eventually be left with only 1 possible table that can contain all charm combinations you have.
The other, and slightly quicker takes about 1 hour to do from the beginning of the game.
It requires you to get through the tutorial of the game and do the first few missions, specifically the mission to collect 3 monster guts.
When you complete this quest the fishing boats will be unlocked and using these will reward you with some items.
When you get the items from them (takes a quest or 2 for them to return after you send them off fishing) Go to
http://www.hayasoft.com/chisamin/mh3g/tsearch.cgi and enter the items you got, in the exact order you got them. This will tell you which charm table you are assigned. Note, it can take a few fishing trips to be 100% sure which one you have.
