Nintendo Confirms Switch Is Powerful Enough To Support VR

Packshot-contents-banner-wide.png

What about virtual reality? Is the launch version of Switch powerful enough to support it?

The very simple answer is yes. We've said this before, and I feel like we're saying it a lot, but we are interested and doing research into this field. The question, of course, is "What is the best way to bring virtual reality to our customers as a form of entertainment?" Not just, "Hey, look! It's realistic!" or whatever, but what is the best way to use this technology to bring something fun to our consumer base? We are definitely looking at that.

Nintendo Switch Could Support Old Controllers Via An Update

The Switch seems to be a clean break from previous Nintendo consoles, the upcoming system not backwards compatible with old games or controllers. However, this might not always be the case. In an interview with Time, Kimishima revealed that they were considering making certain old controllers usable with a system update. This is certainly interesting, controllers like the Wii Remote being a Nintendo staple for over 10 years now. Check out the full interview here.

Is Switch powerful enough to emulate Wii U games, or would they have to be ports, like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

We can take games and bring them and make them playable on Switch. So they can be remade for Switch, yes.
That said, Switch is not backward compatible with games designed for other systems, and is not currently compatible with controllers designed for other systems. Support for certain controllers may be considered for a future update. In some cases, games from past systems may be re-released for the Nintendo Switch system as either enhanced or original versions.

No changing Link’s name in Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Past Zelda games have allowed players to give Link any sort of name they desired. In Breath of the Wild though, the character’s name is set. During a chat with German YouTuber lookslikeLink, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma confirmed that you won’t be able to change Link’s name. That’s because he wants players themselves to feel like they’re becoming Link.

Aonuma was also asked if Breath of the Wild ended up the way he imagined it. To that, he said the game turned out just the way he imagined it from the beginning. Aonuma found it difficult to stop working on the project since the team continued to put more content into the world to explore. He hopes that players will have enjoy discovering all the things in the game for themselves.

Final Fantasy XV team has interest in Switch, but no plans to port the game over

According to Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata, the developers working on Square Enix’s RPG have interest in Switch. Unfortunately though, there aren’t any plans to port the game over at present.

Tabata is unsure as to whether or not Final Fantasy XV would run on Switch. He says that tests really haven’t been done to see if it would be possible.

Here’s the full exchange between DualShockers and Tabata:

G: Is there any possibility for Final Fantasy XV to be released on Nintendo Switch?

HT: There are no Plans, it wouldn’t run…

G: It wouldn’t run at all?

HT: It might run… But we haven’t conducted the proper tests on whether it would run properly on Switch or not, so I cannot say for sure.

G: So there is no plan at all?

HT: There are no plans for Switch at the moment, but overall, there is interest in the platform among the development team. We do have lots of Nintendo fans inside BD2.

Incidentally, I think that Switch would be really cool if it could run Android apps on its portable screen…

Farming Simulator on Switch “likely closer to the PC version than the 3DS port”

We already knew that Farming Simulator would be arriving on 3DS. The next installment in this franchise developed by GIANTS Software, Farming Simulator 18, is planned for both handheld platforms currently on the market. And in the recent Nintendo event we also learned that Farming Simulator devs were planning on bringing the same experience to Switch as part of the line-up of Nintendo’s new console.

However, the news about Farming Simulator on Switch keep coming. Thanks to a Focus Home Interactive press event in Paris, which Let’s Play Video Games was able to attend to, we now know that development is still early and the team behind the game cannot promise if the Switch version will be Farming Simulator 17 or another future installment.

Regardless of that, GIANTS Software says that the port of Farming Simulator for Switch will be “likely closer to the PC version than the 3DS port”.

We expect a Farming Simulator game for Switch this year, but apparently it’s still too early to know when exactly that would be.
