Famitsu Recaps PlayStation Vita's First Half Year

PlayStation Vita has been out for over half a year now and recently saw somewhat of a boost following the release of a new color and major titles like Persona 4 The Golden. Famitsu responded this week by doing a sales recap for the system and its early games. Here are some of the stats via Sinobi:

Total hardware sales: 790,633 units

Top 10 games:

01: Persona 4 The Golden (188,782)
02: Hot Shots Golf 6 (118,985)
03: Uncharted Golden Abyss (89,390)
04: Gravity Daze/Rush (74,785)
05: Dynasty Warriors Next (74,718)
06: Tales of Innocence R (71,463)
07: Lord of Apocalypse (69,162)
08: Ragnarok Odyssey (65,318)
09: Gundam Seed Battle Destiny (55,527)
10: Disgaea 3 Return (54,902)
According to Sinobi's brief summary of Famitsu's feature, Sony Computer Entertainment reps tell Famitsu that sales are going pretty much according to expectation.

Sony points to August as being the next big push for the system with games like Hatsune Miku on the way, and also suggests that we look forward to Tokyo Game Show in September for a big expansion in the system's lineup.

Second Game Heaven Not Too Far Off

PSV-PC.jpg

Every single PlayStation Vita comments thread on every gaming site everywhere (at the very least here) seems to always have one question: when will Sony hold its next Game Heaven event? Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Hiroshi Kawano provided somewhat of an answer in this week's Famitsu.

As part of a Q&A, Famitsu asked Kawano if the next Game Heaven event would be held soon. Kawano responded that while he could not get too specific, he does not want to leave too long a gap before the next one. He also promised major titles which he could not detail.

Regarding Tokyo Game Show, Kawano said that he believes the balance for this year's show will shift towards Vita. TGS will be held in September.

The summary we have appears to be just from a bit of the interview. There may be more, so check back later once Sokuho delivers its usual detailed summary, and later in the week or early next as Famitsu.com often posts the full transcript.

Puddle Splashes On To PS Vita Next Week

7598522124_5cc2f2e65f_z.jpg

Hello, I’m Sébastien from Neko Entertainment. We came out with a game earlier this year called Puddle, and we’re bringing it to PS Vita next week!

Puddle began as a project by six students of the video game school ENJMIN. It won a Student Showcase prize at the Independent Gaming Festival at GDC 2010, and was later picked up by Neko Entertainment. There, those same six students were able to turn it into a full-fledged game.
After we released the game on PS3, we worked hard to get a better handle on the game’s mechanics, so we’d be able to deliver a new version of Puddle on PS Vita. We paid particular attention to feedback from PS3 players when working on the PS Vita version — which will have many exclusive features!

7598520720_d15f5e02d3_n.jpg

We made the game a bit easier (there’s an option to “whine and skip” a level if it’s proving too difficult), there are now tips on every loading screen, and menus have been changed to take advantage of the touch screen. You can change the control setup (tilt the console, use the left stick, use L and R buttons, or even use the rear touch pad). We wanted to make sure you have plenty of options when you play Puddle on your PS Vita!
While we’ve made lots of changes to the PS Vita version of Puddle, the main goal is still the same: get your puddle to the goal by any means necessary. We really hope you enjoy Puddle for PS Vita and manage to finish all the levels… oh, and pay attention to the background on the main menu — it may be more than just a background!

'PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale' PSVita sẽ tương đương so với bản PS3

Both versions run at 60fps, and in a controlled environment — with a wireless router sitting a few feet from a Vita and a PS3 playing together — I couldn't see any lag between the two. Chris Miranda, an associate producer on Battle Royale at Sony Santa Monica, showed this off by holding the Vita up to the TV during the pre-match cutscenes: they played at the same time. The responsiveness was so impressive that I had no problem using the Vita as a controller, simply inputting commands on the device in my hands while watching the action play out on the much larger screen in front of me. Which one of the PixelJunk series would you most like to see on PlayStation Vita?

The PixelJunk series of games on the PlayStation Network are among Sony’s digital downloadable service’s most popular offerings. From PixelJunk Shooter and PixelJunk Monsters to PixelJunk SideScroller and PixelJunk Eden (and everything in between), these games are generally well received critically and the hardcore PlayStation audience seems to have a soft spot for the games in general.

That’s why it’s good to see that the series’ developer, Q-Games, appears ready to expand on its library by polling gamers on which of its PixelJunk offshoots they want to see on PlayStation Vita the most. PSNStores noted that Q-Games’ Facebook page is running a poll asking “which one of the PixelJunk series would you most like to see on PlayStation Vita? Get clicking and spread the word!”

Dyad could be brought to Vita

0.jpg

The recently released PSN racer Dyad could makes its way to the PlayStation Vita. It’s only available for the PS3 at the moment, but developer Shawn McGrath says a portable version could happen.

What would it take? On the latest PlayStation Blogcast, McGrath said the following conditions must be met: “it doesn’t ****, and is free if the PS3 version has been purchased.”

One issue could be the title’s graphics, which McGrath feels are “overwhelming” on the PS3. Still, if the situation is right and a Vita version could reach McGrath’s goals, perhaps we’ll see Dyad on Sony’s portable one day.
