Nippon Ichi Software will release Special Report Division, its 20th anniversary title for PlayStation Vita, in Japan on August 23, this week’s Dengeki PlayStation has revealed.
The title is not a role-playing game, but rather an adventure game. You’ll play from behind the perspective of a camera viewfinder. Event scenes are said to be abundant, in high quality, and play consecutively. The game’s system involves being able to experience TV production. Compared to Hayarigami (another adventure game from NIS), the goal is to show the truth to the audience. You’ll make choices depending on other choices, but they don’t diverge greatly. Sohei Shinkawa is the game’s producer, and Another (manga) artist Hiro Kiyohara is its character designer. NIS teamed with Nagoya Production Team in creating the game’s backgrounds and scene atmosphere.
NIS considered producing Special Report Division in an anime style, but decided it was too difficult with the game’s photography of supernatural phenomenon. Instead, they produced it in a picture-esque style.
The retail version of Special Report Division will cost 6,090 yen, and the download version will cost 5,000 yen.
