Resident Evil: The Novels
After her success of her novels based on the movie Aliens, Oregon-based author, S.D. (Stephani Danelle) Perry was approached by Capcom to transpose a novel based on the first Resident Evil game. After the success of the first novel Capcom asked her to write another, and eventually she ended up writing six total. Rumor has it that more books are on the way, including a possible spin-off of the Resident Evil movie. S.D. Perry is slated to write it.
While the storylines follow the games to some degree they also expand on the content of them, providing a deeper insight to the character's personalities and motivations. The novels aren't considered the "official" Resident Evil story, but like all fiction they take you on a different path, and explore what could have been. Each one is a nice addition that complements the Resident Evil series, and if you're looking for more Resident Evil while you await that next game release then the novels might be enough to satisfy that "hunger".

Summary
Enter the world of survival horror...
Raccoon City: a remote mountain community suddenly besieged by a rash of grisly murders encroaching upon it from the surrounding forest. Bizarre reports start to spread, describing attacks from vicious creatures, some human... some not. Victims are apparently eaten.
At the epicenter of these deaths is a dark, secluded mansion belonging to the mysterious Umbrella Corporation. For years Umbrella has labored within the mansion, unwatched, ostensibly conducting benign genetic research.
Deployed to investigate the strange goings-on is the Special Tactics and Rescue Squad (S.T.A.R.S.), an unusual paramilitary response unit boasting an eclectic assortment of mission specialists: roguish Chris Redfield, former cat burglar Jill Valentine, dead-eye Barry Burton, and the enigmatic team leader, Albert Wesker. Together with the other S..T.A.R.S. operatives, they have good reason to believe they’re ready for anything.
But what unfolds as the S.T.A.R.S. penetrate the mansion’s long-locked doors is terror beyond their worst nightmares: creatures that defy the laws of life and death—the result of forbidden experiments gone disastrously wrong. Behind it all is a conspiracy so vast in its scope and so insidious in its agenda that the S.T.A.R.S. will be betrayed from within to ensure that the world never learns Umbrella’s secret. And if any survive…they may well come to envy those who do not.

Wesker took a single step toward the slaughter in front of them--when all around, deep, echoing howls filled the warm night air, shrill voices of predatorial fury coming at the S.T.A.R.S. from all direction.
"Back to the 'copter, now!" Wesker shouted.
Chris ran, Barry and Jill in front of him and Wesker bringing up the rear. The four of them sprinted through dark trees, unseen branches slapping at them as the howls grew louder, more insistent.
Wesker turned and fired blindly into the woods as they stumbled toward the waiting helicopter, its blades already spinning. Chris felt relief sweep through him; Brad must have heard the shots. They still had a chance....
Chris could hear the creatures behind them now, the sharp rustling of lean, muscular bodies tearing through the trees. He could also see Brad's pale, wide-eyed face through the glass front of the 'copter, the reflected lights of the control panel casting a greenish glow across his panicked features. He was shouting something, but the roar of the engine drowned out everything now, the blast of wind churning the field into a rippling sea.
Another fifty feet, almost there—
Suddenly, the helicopter jerked into the air, accelerating wildly. Chris caught a final glimpse of Brad’s face and could see the blind terror there, the unthinking panic that had gripped him as he clawed at the controls.
"No! Don’t go!" Chris screamed, but the wobbling rails were already out of reach, the 'copter pitching forward and away from them through the thundering darkness.
They were going to die.

They Knew It Wasn’t Over...
In the aftermath of their ordeal through the Umbrella Corporation's genetic research facility, the surviving members of the Special Tactics and Rescue Squad (S.T.A.R.S.) attempt to warn the world about the conspiracy to create terrifying biological weapons. But the conspiracy is far from dead, as the S.T.A.R.S. learn when they are declared outlaws by the very people who trained them. Forces to go underground, the S.T.A.R.S. resolve to battle the conspiracy on their own, determined to seek out and stop Umbrella's experiments wherever they may be.
Combat medic and biochemist Rebecca Chambers, the sole survivor of Bravo Team, joins a new S.T.A.R.S. strike force when rumor comes of another Umbrella experiment: hidden beneath the rocky cliffs of Caliban Cove, Maine, someone is building an army of the undead. Within a sinister lighthouse, through a complex maze of sea caves, inside the shell of a sunken shipwreck, the S.T.A.R.S. must battle more unspeakable horrors and stop a madman from unleashing the biohazard upon the world.
But the S.T.A.R.S. may never get the chance, as the aggressive DNA-altering virus Umbrella has engineered to create its living weapons begins to infect them...

"Why won’t they die?" Steve screamed.
The walls trembled and shook with automatic fire. Rebecca spun and trained her weapon on the back door, her heart pounding in her throat. The disbelief and terror in Steve's voice made her blood run cold.
—zombies?
She shot a glance back, saw Steve still shooting at something, saw David motioning her to move.
She sidled for the open door, catching a sickening, up-close look at the bullet-riddled corpse still hanging there. The head had caved in like a rotting pumpkin, teeth shattered, gummy flecks of tissue radiating out from behind the skull. The waving hand was no longer connected to the rotting arm, the radius and ulna blown away. It dangled there like some obscene decoration, beckoning . . .
Steve fired once more and the auto's clatter ceased. He raised the weapon, his eyes wide with shock as he opened his mouth to say something——and the back door crashed open, bullets flying through the dark in a blaze of orange fire. David pushed her roughly through the front and she ran, the responding crack of the nine-millimeter rounds resonating behind her.
Turning, she saw Karen firing, heard John yelling, "Come on, come on—"
It seemed that Umbrella had found a new application for the T-Virus. And like it or not, Rebecca thought, we're going to have to deal with the consequences.
They were trapped in Caliban Cove. And in this facility, the creatures had guns.

Something moved.
A shadow, soft and darting over the mashed remains some twenty feet in front of her, and at the same time, Claire heard a strange rasping sound, breathing——and she looked up, still not sure what she was seeing or hearing—that ragged breathing and the tick of talons on wood, the talons themselves, thick and curved, the claws of a creature that couldn't exist. Bug, the size of a full-grown man, but the resemblance ended there—and it was so impossible that she could only see it in pieces, her mind struggling to put them together. The inflamed, purplish flesh of the naked, long-limbed creature that clung to the ceiling. The puffed gray-white tissue of the partially exposed brain. The scar-rimmed holes where the eyes should have been.
—not seeing this—
The creature's rounded head dropped back, the wide jaw opening, a ropy stream of dark drool pouring out and splattering over what was left of the cop. It extended its tongue, eely and pink, the rough surface shimmering wetly as it slithered out. And out. And out, the snaking tongue uncoiling and whipping from side to side, so long that it actually trailed through the ripped flesh of the corpse.
The creature opened its mouth again and screamed—

Abandon hope, all ye who enter here...
Umbrella has secrets. The mysterious corporation is creating monstrous biological killing machines for the highest bidder. But Umbrella has enemies, too—chief among them a contingent of rogue S.T.A.R.S., former members of the paramilitary response unit Umbrella helped create.
Umbrella has secrets. Despite its vast power, the company has begun to lose control of its hidden research facilities, bit by bit, one lab at a time. Three labs have already been destroyed, their work lost, setbacks due in no small part to the meddlesome S.T.A.R.S. and their allies.
Umbrella has secrets. Beneath the deserts of the American Southwest, on of the company's most elaborate facilities is about to go online. Somewhere inside may also be the key to stopping Umbrella once and for all... if Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Rebecca Chambers, and their friends can get past a strike team of corrupt S.T.A.R.S., and survive the genetically engineered horrors awaiting them below the sun-scorched Earth.
Umbrella has secrets. And one man with an agenda of his own knows them all...

This is so weird, Leon thought, so over the top—so utterly like Umbrella. It was like the vast facility beneath Raccoon, complete with its own foundry and private subway—unbelievable, except he'd seen it himself. And he knew from the ex-S.T.A.R.S. that there'd also been an isolated cove on the Maine coast guarded by teams of viral zombies, and a "deserted" mansion in the woods—the Spencer place—rigged with secrets, keys, codes, and passages, like the setting for a spy movie that no one would ever buy...
Now this—simulated environments beneath the barren Utah salt flats. What had Reston called it? The Planet. It was an extravagant, decadent, immoral waste; ridiculous, except——except we're stuck in it, and God only knows what we'll be up against next.
"Let's back up and go around," he said--and then he heard the beat of wings, and knew it was already too late. In the wilted shadows above the open space, one, two, three of the Dacs were diving off perches, soaring down into the rounded clearing.
One of them started to screech and then there were others nearby, overhead, hiding in the unlikely trees, who joined in the song, a deafening, horrendous cacophony of needle-sharp sound. Leon fell back, John suddenly at his side, aiming his rifle into the open space.
"Henry, get behind me!" Leon shouted, glancing up—and seeing yet another Dac coming down from a series of perches directly above, tucking its wings in and diving straight for him.

Summary
Zombies. Mutant animals. Bioengineered weapons and surgically enhanced monsters. Secret labs and widespread conspiracies. It seemed impossible, but Jill Valentine and her teammates among the S.T.A.R.S. had seen it all firsthand when the Umbrella Corporation turned Raccoon City into a staging ground for the most insidious genetic experiments ever conceived. After all she’s been through, Valentine is ready to leave that remote mountain community forever.
But Umbrella isn't finished with Raccoon City.
Too much evidence of their unethical and immoral research still exists. It must be recovered or destroyed—and quickly—before it can be traced back to Umbrella. And with William Birkin's mutagenic virus already spreading though the city like wildfire, drastic measures are needed. Under cover of night, mercenary teams have entered the city, along with something else—Umbrella's failsafe: an evolved version of its Tyrant-class killing machines, a lethal creature code-named Nemesis. Now Nemesis is on the hunt. And Jill Valentine is about to become prey.

"It’s coming for us," he breathed.
"For the S.T.A.R.S. The police are dead, they can't do anything to stop it, just like they couldn't stop this—" Brad waved one trembling hand at the bloody creature on the floor. "You'll see."
With that, Brad turned and snatched the door open, blind panic tripping him as he stumbled out into the street and took off running without looking back. Jill took one step toward the closing door and stopped, suddenly thinking that maybe there were worse things than being alone. Trying to take care of anyone as she made her way out of Raccoon—particularly a hysterical man with a history of cowardice who was too scared to be reasonable—was probably a bad idea.
She felt a chill thinking about what he'd said, though. What was coming, specifically for the S.T.A.R.S.?
He seems to think I'll find out.
Unsettled, Jill mentally wished him luck and turned toward the polished bar, hoping that the ancient Remington was still tucked under the register—and wondering what the hell Chickenheart Vickers was doing in Raccoon, and what, exactly, had him so terrified.

The entire rear of the hold was gone, the hatch torn away, clouds and sky whipping past at incredible speed. Confused, Claire took a single step forward—and saw what the problem was.
Mr. X, she thought wildly, remembering the monstrous thing in Raccoon, the relentless pursuer in the long, dark coat—but the hulking creature straddling the hydraulic track wasn’t the same. It was humanoid, giant-sized and hairless like the X monster—but it was also taller, its shoulders impossible broad, its abdomen rippled with muscle. Its left fist was a metal-spiked mace bigger than her entire head, its right hand a hybrid of flesh and curving knives, two of them at least a foot long. The monster turned its cataract-white eyes to look at her before throwing its head back and roaring, and explosive howl of blood lust and fury.
Terrified but determined, Claire raised her suddenly pathetic weapon as the creature started for her, and put eh red dot on its right unicolor eye. She squeezed the trigger——and heard the dry click of an empty chamber, deafeningly loud even over the raging winds that spun past the damaged plane.

A crackle of lightening flickered across the thickening darkness, illuminating the small but steep hill that marked the deepest part of the forest. Nyberg looked up and saw a tall figure silhouetted against the trees at the crest of the hill, someone in a long coat or robe, the dark fabric rippling in the wind. The figure raised long arms to the raging sky - - and the stutter of lightning was gone, plunging the strange, dramatic scene back into darkness.
"What the?!" Nyberg began, and more water splashed across the glass - except it wasn't water, because water didn't stick in great, dark clumps, water didn't ooze, and break apart, revealing dozens of shining needle teeth. Nyberg blinked, not sure what he was seeing as someone started to scream at the other end of the car, a long, rising wail, as more of the dark, slug-like creatures, each the size of a man's fist, smashed against the window. The sound of hail on the roof went from a patter to a storm, the thunder of it drowning out the screamer, the screams of many now.
Hot panic shot through Nyberg's body, sending him to his feet. He made it to the aisle before the glass behind him shattered, before all glass all through the train was shattering, the high, jagged sound of it melding with the screams of terror, all of it nearly lost beneath the ongoing thunder of attack. As the lights went out, something cold and wet and very much alive landed on the back of his neck and began to feed.
