About recent Hackshield issues

Dear Fans of Navy Field,
After yesterday¡¯s patch, which included the new anti-hacking features, there has
been an intense argument and complaint in our forums and we also received a lot of
support tickets for this issue. We are currently checking all log files and reports that
players has sent in cooperation with our engineers, to follow-up the current situation.
However, we are afraid that some rumors are making the situation worse, and may
affect the part of our players who do not have the full information about the current
situation and the program itself. (This was also asked by numerous support tickets.)
We therefore want to provide official information about the current situation and
answer some of the frequently asked issues.
Why do we need an anti-hacking program?
The use of hacking or cheating tools has increased during the last years, which
threatened the in-game balance seriously. Tools like sailor rolling macros, botting
programs (like auto-mouse) or getting more XP via simple mission room raised a
complaint for players who wanted to enjoy the game purely and fairly. But the more
serious thing was tools like fog of war cheat, or reload/speed hack programs. This
definitely affected the in-game balance and made the game system almost useless.
Other programs which alter the memory to get higher credit or experience reward
were also reported.
The old type tools were mostly scanned or detected from our system. But during the
years of service, the tools evolved too, and we had to make a hard decision on
adding a game protection guard to protect our players who wants to play without
dealing cheaters.
Why Hackshield? People are saying it¡¯s dangerous!
After deciding to implement a professional anti-hacking program, we started to
search and compare a lot of products. We had early experience with another
program called NProtect, which hadn¡¯t a good result because the program was too
heavy to play the game. Hackshield had a lot better results after several tests, so we
started to test it in the Test Server.
AhnLab, the manufacturer Hackshield is a well-known company for online security,
which has a cooperation agreement with Kaspersky Lab. Hackshield is the main
product for online game security, and is used in over 50 games which are providing
global service including games like MapleStory, SUN Online or Silkroad Online. For

Can Hackshield harm my online security?
The simple answer is ¡®No¡¯.
Players gave us report that Hackshield is regarded as Trojan, Malware or keylog. Also
there were arguments about if the program is rootkit or not. Unlike rootkit which
access through the Windows Kernel, Hackshield protects abnormal attack to the
process from outside processes. Hacking the keylog is actually a very easy method,
and it¡¯s also easy to be protected, using two methods – message hook and packet
hook. Packet hook is not protected by our program but it can be easily protected with
any public anti-virus or anti-hack program.
In case you have trouble with your anti-virus, please give us a detail report about
which program you are using, and also please check if you are using the latest
version. We will check which part is causing the issue and ask technical advice with
AhnLab.
But I really cannot play!
The currently known issues regarding Hackshield include:
- Cannot launch the game (Hackshield does not get updated)
- Cannot launch with compatibility mode
- Cannot use certain programs (d3d windowed mode, game mouse etc.)
- Issue for Alt+tab (only reported by a part of players)
We are currently checking on these issues with cooperation of AhnLab support team.
If you are having technical issues with Hackshield please follow the reporting steps
which are introduced in our previous thread. Your report will be sent directly to our
engineers, to find out where the issue lies and what solutions are possible. We are
hoping to improve and stabilize the current program, by analyzing and
troubleshooting your reports.
We do understand many players having the concerning with the Hack shield and we
are sincerely sorry for players that are having hard time ingame dealing the
inconvenience. We will do our best to fix this issue as soon as possible.
We will be thankful to all players who can support us in fixing this issue. We do not
think this is just a step back that will ruin our game community, but it will be a step
back so we can prepare a new leap forward for a progress in the future of NavyField.
