Cuộc chiến PSP và Nintendo DS chưa bao giờ nguội

Công cụ giải trí của Sony và Nintendo vẫn luôn "gườm" nhau trong từng bước tiến trên con đường chinh phục những đỉnh cao của làng thiết bị chơi game cầm tay.

Màn hình rộng và sáng bóng của Sony PSP được nhiều người ví như cánh cửa mở ra một thế giới mới. Sản phẩm nhỏ gọn dành cho game 3D này có thể sánh ngang tầm với PlayStation 2 nhưng tiên tiến hơn bởi nó hỗ trợ tính năng xem phim DVD, nghe nhạc và xem ảnh số. PSP đã sẵn sàng trở thành sản phẩm công nghệ tiêu dùng “hấp dẫn” nhất của năm.

PSP (tên đầy đủ là máy chơi game cầm tay - PlayStation Portable) có khả năng mở rộng thị trường thiết bị cầm tay, thu hút nhiều người chơi lớn tuổi giống như PS (PlayStation) đã đạt được trong ngành công nghiệp thiết bị giải trí vào giữa những năm 90. Tuy nhiên, Nintendo, hãng thống trị thị trường game cầm tay trong vòng hơn 15 năm qua, bán được hơn 170 triệu máy Game Boy, sẽ không chịu cảnh chưa chiến đã thua.

Nintendo trả lời PSP không phải bằng một sản phẩm Game Boy mạnh mẽ mà bằng sản phẩm được hãng gọi là "một phát minh". Nintendo DS được giới thiệu tại Australia trước PSP với giá rẻ đến kinh ngạc: 199 USD. DS có thiết kế gập, khi mở ra có hai màn hình cảm ứng LCD với microphone tích hợp sẵn để nhận diện giọng nói. Làn sóng người đổ xô đi mua DS đã cho thấy những tính năng này được mong đợi thế nào. Ngoài DS, chưa có sản phẩm máy chơi game nào làm theo công nghệ đó.

Với hơn 130.000 pixel, 16 nghìn màu và độ nét đáng kinh ngạc, màn hình LCD rộng 4,3 inch của PSP tỏ ra rất quyến rũ. DS không đẹp như vậy nhưng lại có màn hình chơi rộng với hai góc xem của một hành động đang diễn ra. Các nhà phát triển DS hy vọng sẽ phát triển màn hình với chức năng bản đồ, hay còn gọi là màn hình hướng dẫn, chỉ ra số liệu và zoom hình cận cảnh, hỗ trợ tính năng nhiều người chơi.

Trong khi màn hình kép 3 inch vẫn còn tương đối mới trên thị trường, thì các nhà phát triển của Nintendo đã thành công trong việc khai thác tính năng “cảm ứng”. Phần lớn các game DS đều có thể được điều khiển bằng cách sử dụng một bút stylus hoặc ngón tay của người sử dụng. Người chơi có thể điều khiển nhân vật trong game bằng cách di chuyển bút đi lại, lái xe với bánh lái xe ảo, nựng thú, quay vợt đánh gôn, di chuyển miếng ghép hình, cắt rau, vẽ tranh, bắn súng cao su, chọn quân bài và nhiều hành động hơn thế nữa…

Về điều khiển, PSP có các nút Cross, Square, Triangle và Circle giống máy PlayStation, nhưng có thêm hai phím bên sườn và một stick tương tự dưới bộ điều khiển. PSP có kích thước vừa phải nên bạn có thể cầm thoải mái trong tay, trong khi đó Nintendo DS hơi lớn một chút nên cầm tay chơi không thoải mái và khi đặt trên bàn, người chơi khó có được góc chơi hoàn hảo cho hai màn hình.

Về mặt đồ họa 3D, DS có thể so sánh được với Nintendo 64 trong khi mặt này của PSP chỉ tương tự PlayStation 2.

Hàng trăm đầu game PSP đang được phát triển, bao gồm Grand Theft Auto, Ape Escape, MediEvil, Metal Gear Acid, Wipeout Pure, Everybody's Golf, Burnout, Ridge Racers, Lumines, Splinter Cell, V8 Supercars, The Godfather và Mercury. Các trò chơi PSP được phân phối trên đĩa Universal Media mới của Sony, một đĩa DVD mini bằng nhựa đường kính 6 cm. Mỗi đĩa có dung lượng 1,8 GB.

Sự tương đồng của PSP với PlayStation 2 vừa có cái thuận lợi và cái bất lợi. Thuận lợi là nó được hỗ trợ bởi các nhà phát triển PS2, bất lợi là cần phải phát triển thêm nhiều game mới thích hợp với thời gian chơi ngắn của máy cầm tay với các điểm mạnh của game như tính năng nhiều người chơi chẳng hạn.

DS có thiết bị giao tiếp tích hợp sẵn, được gọi là PictoChat, giúp người sử dụng trên khắp thế giới gửi tin nhắn hoặc viết thư cho nhau. Trẻ con sẽ rất thích thiết bị này và sẽ thấy đây là một công cụ giao tiếp tương đối thú vị.

DS còn có một thư viện với hơn 500 đầu game bởi thiết bị tương thích với đầu chơi Game Boy Advance. Hiện tại, hơn 100 đầu game DS đang được phát triển, bao gồm Yoshi Touch 'N Go, Jam with the Band, Project Rub, Super Mario Bros, Rayman, Pac Pix, Harvest Moon, Sonic, Animal Crossing và Mario Kart.

Sony quảng bá PSP như là một thiết bị chơi game mặc dù tính năng multimedia của nó rất mạnh. Nhiều người bị PSP cuốn hút với chức năng của một máy video số cầm tay và máy nghe nhạc hơn. Nhà phát triển còn muốn đưa các tính năng khác như máy ảnh số, bàn phím điện thoại di động và bộ chỉnh sóng tivi vào thiết bị.

Sony cho biết Hollywoood sẽ hỗ trợ định dạng UMD nhưng cho tới giờ chưa có phim UMD nào ngoài Spider-Man 2. Phim này cũng sẽ được ghi trong máy PSP khi máy này phát hành tại Mỹ tháng tới. Tuy nhiên, người mua hàng chắc chắn sẽ không thích có bản DVD hay UMD của cùng một phim. May mắn thay, người sử dụng PC có thể kết nối với PSP qua cáp USB để download phim MPEG4 lên thẻ nhớ. Tính năng này sẽ được mở rộng. Theo đó, người sử dụng sẽ có thể download các chương trình tivi hay các chương trình yêu thích trên máy PSP trong quá trình đi lại.

Sony cũng có kế hoạch cung cấp dịch vụ download video không dây với các đoạn quảng cáo phim hay game sắp phát hành, cộng với dịch vụ download nhạc dạng iTunes.

PSP chơi nhạc MP3 và định dạng nhạc ATRAC 3 của Sony với chất lượng âm thanh tuyệt hảo, đặc biệt qua tai nghe. Chất lượng âm trên DS không ấn tượng bằng, đặc biệt khi nghe qua loa nhỏ xinh trong máy, nhưng ngược lại DS lại có âm vang và chắc khi dùng headphone.

PSP còn có thể được sử dụng như máy xem ảnh với các chức năng xoay, cắt ảnh và điều khiển zoom. Sony cho biết hãng này đang có ý định mở rộng tính năng của thiết bị. Các file mới sẽ bao gồm những ứng dụng như lướt web, e-mail, voice chat, đặt lịch làm việc, thiết bị xử lý văn bản và bảng tính.

Pin lithium-ion của PSP có thời lượng cao, dùng được từ 4 đến 6 giờ chơi game, 10 giờ chơi nhạc với màn hình tắt. Pin sạc lại của DS thì dùng được tới 10 giờ.

Nintendo DS có giá 199 USD bao gồm PictoChat tích hợp trong và bản game demo Metroid Prime: Hunter. Giá của PSP từ 350 - 400 USD, con số này hẳn sẽ gây sốc cho các bậc cha mẹ nhưng thực sự vẫn rẻ so với một thiết bị nhiều tính năng như vậy.

Đối với nhiều người, PSP của Sony có thể quyến rũ và mạnh mẽ hơn DS của Nintendo và có thể sẽ thành công như PS1 và PS2. Tuy nhiên, với giá chỉ bằng một nửa PSP, DS tiếp tục chiếm giữ thị phần không nhỏ trong thị trường các thiết bị cầm tay.

Cho tới giờ chưa ai có thể giải thích tại sao hai sản phẩm này không thể cùng sống chung hoà bình, mỗi hãng một lĩnh vực: DS thì dành cho bọn trẻ với những trò chơi vui vẻ mang tính đột phá còn PSP thu hút những người lớn tuổi, ham muốn các sản phẩm giải trí cầm tay sành điệu.

Chủ tịch tập đoàn Microsoft đang xem xét kế hoạch cung cấp bí mật sáng chế thiết bị game Xbox cho một số công ty nhất định. Động thái được coi là khá mạo hiểm này nhằm mở rộng đối tượng sử dụng để cạnh tranh với PlayStation của Sony.

Kazushi Okabe, phát ngôn viên của Microsoft tại Nhật, ngày hôm qua đã khẳng định lại tuyên bố của Bill Gates, tuy không tiết lộ cụ thể loại phần mềm hay hãng sản xuất nào sẽ được cung cấp công nghệ.

Bà Molly O'Donnell, đại diện bộ phận Xbox, khẳng định bất kể công ty phần cứng nào được cấp phép sản xuất thì Xbox vẫn luôn là nhãn hiệu độc quyền của Microsoft.

Kazushi nhận định kế hoạch này tương tự như những gì Microsoft đã thực hiện trong quá khứ, khi hãng quyết định hợp tác với những công ty khác, trong đó có nhiều nhà sản xuất điện tử Nhật, để cài hệ điều hành Windows vào hệ thống máy tính cá nhân.

Michael Gartenberg, chuyên gia phân tích của JupiterResearch, cho rằng việc phá bỏ phương thức sản xuất thiết bị độc quyền theo truyền thống của Microsoft là một quyết định dũng cảm nhưng cũng khá liều lĩnh của Bill Gates.

Microsoft dự tính sẽ cung cấp Xbox 360 vào cuối năm nay trong khi PlayStation 3 của Sony sẽ có mặt vào mùa xuân tới. Hãng phần mềm tại Redmond, Washington này hy vọng việc ra mắt trước sẽ ảnh hưởng không nhỏ tới vị trí dẫn đầu của Sony trên thị trường game. Tập đoàn cũng đã rất nỗ lực trong việc thu hút khách hàng Nhật khi mời những chuyên gia thiết kế hàng đầu nước này xây dựng game cho Xbox 360.

PlayStation 2 của Sony hiện đang chiếm tới hơn một nửa thị trường game video, trong khi Xbox và GameCube của Nintendo chia đôi thị phần còn lại. PlayStation 3 được tích hợp chip Cell dành cho siêu máy tính và được phát triển phù hợp định dạng DVD thế hệ mới do Sony hậu thuẫn mang tên Blu-ray. Riêng Xbox 360 vẫn hoạt động với chuẩn DVD hiện tại, mặc dù Gates khẳng định hãng sẽ mở rộng chuẩn DVD trong phiên bản tiếp theo.

Ok, some of the new 1.76 plugin features I have described in the OGL2  version file (OGL2 V2.07): 
floating point fps limit value 
y sprite mirroring (thanx to smf) 
fixed psx gpu blending mode (thanx to softm)

I've added a "pause" key, if you have to do a break, and you don't  want to quit the emu (my other gpu plugins already had this option) 
I've noticed the "G4 polygon cache" special game fix (for FF9) was  a bit overdone :) Should be better now. 
Pete's OGL2 Plugin 2.07
Some users wanted the possibility to enter a floating point value as  framerate limitation. Ok, done (doesn't make much sense, imho, but   it will not hurt as well... my personal advice: use the "auto-detect  limitation value" option whenever it is possible). 
softm reported on my messageboard, that one of the PSX blending modes looked different in my plugins, compared to the real PSX. You will notice the difference only in a few games (softm found Diablo, Legend of Mana and Castlevania), but nevertheless I've fixed this glitch. 
In some games the "Flicker-Fix border" option (needed in combination with the fullscreen shader option) actually didn't fix flickering borders. That's fixed :) 
Many users requested a "fast forward" key, which deactivates the frame limitation while pressed (to skip boring parts of a game).  I've added this feature, you have to configure it in the "GPU key configuration" (hint: look for a small "..." button in the main config window). 
smf of MAMEdev found a new psx gpu feature: y sprite mirroring.  With his help (thanx for the small psx demo!) I could add this psx gpu capability to my plugins.  Don't ask me if a console psx game will use such a mirroring (I've  never noticed it), but who knows... there are many psx games out there :) 
ShadX and guest(r) created all kind of interesting and nice looking  OGL2 fullscreen shaders, which can be found in the shader forum on my messageboard. With version 2.07, even better shaders can be made:  I've added the possibility to access own textures (stored as tga files), which can be used as look-up-tables, for example.  If you want to know how to use this multi-texture option, I've put two small shader demos on my web site as well. Happy shading :) 
P.E.Op.S. Soft Plugin 1.17
 MxC added HQ2X, HQ3X and Scale3X display filters to the Windows version. 
smf of the MAME team found a new capability of the PSX gpu: sprite Y mirroring. I've added this to the P.E.Op.S. gpu, big thanx to smf for sharing this info (and for coding a small psx demo showing this feature) 
softm informed me on my messageboard that one of the transparency modes seems to be wrong in some games (Diablo, Legend of Mana, Castlevania).  I've repaired that, now it will look fine. 
Sometimes small (wrong) texture distortions happened in the soft gpu.  That's caused by internal precision issues, when the plugin is drawing quads using two triangles (needed to get the PSX g-shading right).  I've made a special game fix (0x200), now users can decide if they want a correct g-shading (fix activated) or textures without distortions (fix deactivated). 
The frame limit value is now a floating point number, so you can set (for example) "50.1" as limit. Dunno why, but many users requested this...anyway, my advice: use the "auto-detect limit" option whenever it's possible :)

Thông tin mới về PCSX2 (24/7/2005)

Một cậu với cái tên Rudy_x đã bỏ rất nhiều thời gian ra test trình giả lập PS2 này, kết quả là với một cấu hình mạnh khủng khiếp (không nói rõ), cậu ta đã - tạm gọi là - chơi được Kingdom Hearts .
Nói ra các bạn (những ai chưa nắm rõ tình hình PCSX2) đừng giật mình, 25 phút ở trong game đã đốt của cậu ta 5 tiếng đồng hồ

. Một phần do yêu cầu PCSX rất cao, 1 phần là do cậu Rudy_x khác người, đặt chế độ hình ảnh, âm thanh và các hiệu ứng khác ở mức cao nhất. Kể cũng lắm người kỳ lạ, thấy nó chậm kinh khủng vậy mà vẫn cố ngồi nhìn , không thèm hạ bớt độ phân giải, tắt bớt hiệu ứng cho nó nhanh một chút. Nhưng kệ, cậu Rudy_x đó cũng đã tách đoạn phim Sora và gaint heartless đánh nhau. Bạn nào thích có thể download về xem cho vui mắt (link torrent đó).
