Hi guys,
In the next month, I got to make a quite important decision about my career. Hope you guys can give me some of your thoughts
I have been working in an FMCG company as an assistant to a brand manager since September 2013, so at the end of next month, my one-year contract will end and with this performance of mine, I’m quite sure that it would be extended for at least another year
But honestly speaking, I don’t really enjoy what I’m doing, which involves a lot of list-making and working with irresponsible people (some are real assholes though)
I have an Uncle who is working for a Digital Marketing company of Singapore, which has offices in 5 Asian countries, including Vietnam; and he’s the Manager of the Vietnam office. He gave me the inspiration (well high salary and shit) to go big in Digital Marketing and Web Services. After Tet 2014, I started doing a lot of reading and research about this field and became very interested in it. I even took evening courses after work.
Back to my main problem. I have 2 choices:
1/ Continue working in this FMCG company:
+ Pros: have monthly income (not high but enough for me to stop being a financial burden to my family), have more experience about FMCG field, have a good-looking background (2 years working in a big FMCG company), have opportunities and connections that can give me information about openings in other departments.
+ Cons: have to continue doing what I don’t like, not having enough time to enrich my knowledge on Digital Marketing (there will be a shitload of work after my contract extension – that is if I decide to continue working haha
).
2/ Quit this company, find a job in a Digital Marketing firm
+ Pros: can do what I like, devote 100% of my time to prepare myself with all the knowledge and experience for my plan to go professional in this field.
+ Cons: salary may be lower than current one, background may not look as good.
(the pros and cons of this option 2 are a big NOT SURE though, and even SO NOT SURE if I could find a job if I quit this one
)
Now give me your opinions, guys.
(Haven’t post anything this long for a while, so I gotta say thank you for your time!)
