I think the characters in Fairy Tail are going to travel into the future in the next arc. It is has been heavily foreshadowed at this point.
The first evidence I have to back up my theory is this:

In chapter 234, we saw a boy who resembles Romeo in the last page of the chapter. Assuming he is indeed Romeo, he does look older hinting that the panel is taking place in the future.

One more thing in the last panel there was a newspaper flying with a date on it.

Although it isn't as clear here, in the raw scans the number on the newspaper appeared to be 791. The current year is 784.
To further my point even further I want you to notice that there is a 7 year difference between the two numbers.
Now time travel has been deemed possible by Hades:

It is done by mastering "Arc of time" to its full potential.
Here's my theory at the end of this arc Zeref will awaken, and the great world of magic will be complete. Ultear will then send the character into the future for some reason: maybe to protect them, maybe because that is the only way they can stop Zeref, who knows?
I also have a feeling she will die in the process, so that she can be reunited with her mom. But that's besides the point..
I really do think its gonna happen, it is definitely Mashima's style to foreshadow these types of things and I think there is more than enough evidence to support it.

Reading the last chapter of Fairy Tail and especially the end of it made me start thinking about a possible iminent timeskip in the series.
There really are just a few things to base this on:
First and foremost the series have reached a very critical plot point, starting an era of darkness that could possible last till the series finale. That alone might create a need for Fairy Tail members to get a big power boost all together and is frequently done in mangas in points such as this. Also if the Acnologia is indeed going to massacre Tenrou Island and maybe some members of Fairy Tail it would fit if a time skip followed that, bringing us fully into the war to come.
In the last chapter's last pages the Narrator used past tense that means she or he ( I personally believe that is Lucy) is telling about the Tenrou island incident. Of course that could just be some little time after this, but we are generally not used to Mashima using such a dramatic past tense.

Also Mashima also used the same past tense in the end of chapter 234 when the Fairy Tail vs Grimoir Heart fights were drawing to an end.

During those pages we also see the narrator (maybe Lucy ) using past tense and I get the feeling that he/she sounds like their belief in victory was so futile. Also in the end of the same chapter we see an image of a little boy that could be an image to Fairy Tail's next generation or could be and most likely is imo Romeo a few years younger.
