NO MORE EA SPORTS BOOTS PLEASE!!!
Many a time I have purchased a player for my team, such as Mario Fernandes, the right back from Gremio, and have been left fuming as I can help but notice the fake boots he’s wearing in play. How had would it be for EA to just assign any old boots, any at all, to him and just scrap their own weird looking and glaringly fake creations?
2. MORE PLAYER PICTURES
I really like the inclusion of the little picture of the player in the game, but if FIFA were going to implement this improvement, why on Earth didn’t they finish the job!? Tons of players have the black outlined avatar as a picture, and it is a niggling issue, especially if the player is awesome and has high potential, and is therefore likely to be used (e.g: Alan Dzagoev).
3. MORE GOALKEEPER KITS
To have the goalkeeper in some placid and knocked off version of the real keeper’s kit is annoyingly fake for a FIFA game. I realise that not all goalie kits can be included, but at the very least those for the top clubs (Udinese, Palermo, Genoa in Serie A for example).
4. TOP PLAYERS LEAVING FIRST SEASON
Mario Götze at Dortmund, Stevan Jovetic at Fiorentina and Roberto Soldado at Valencia all left the cub in the first transfer window. This is annoying to say the least as I was basing my entire teams around those guys! At least give us a chance, and maybe if the guy isn’t happy after a year, then he can ask to leave.
5. MORE STADIUMS
This is the default request of any fan, but come on FIFA, you have a year to programme some more stadiums into the game, at least give us White Hart Lane for Pete’s sake!
6. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND EUROPA LEAGUE
‘Champions Cup’. ‘Euro League’. No. I want to take Spurs to the Champions League, and Werder Bremen to the Europa League. FIFA is the world’s governing body, and okay, UEFA govern these cups, but surely a deal can be made like in PES 2008. It would make the whole experience so much more realistic.
7. MORE NIKE BOOTS AND BOOT UPDATES
I have been using those tiresome yellow Nike mercurial boots for a year now…. I want the new pink ones! Updates should be available whenever new models come out, and a wider variety of Nike boots, possibly the most popular brand of football shoes, is a must.
8. REALISTIC DIFFICULTY CHANGES
Making the game harder doesn’t mean making the opposition team faster, stronger and Xavi-esque in possession. The jump from Pro to World Class and Legendary is ridiculous. On Legendary, one would find it hard to beat Portsmouth with Spain.
9. 2nd STRING GOALKEEPERS ASKING FOR GAMES
Okay, second string goalkeepers are there for one reason: to be backup to the big man in between the sticks. They should not be threatening to leave the club if they don’t get playing time. I once signed Marc-Andre Ter Stegen for Dortmund and Mitchell Langerak (me neither) was moaning for not playing ahead of him. Give me a break son.
10. INTERNATIONALS
International friendlies and tournaments are something every manager has to worry about, and their inclusion in the Manager Mode itinerary would be a nice addition. It would also be a massive inclusion to add the chance to be called up to manage an international team, which I would enjoy immensely.
11. BUYING CERTAIN PLAYERS
I hate it when I cannot buy a guy who has ‘recently joined this club and will not move again’ or if the club ‘has few players in this position’. In real management, this would just be a precursor to heftier wads of dosh being banded around! If a player has recently joined or is one of the few in his position, then he should cost more, but not be unavailable.
12. SIMMING PROBLEMS
I think there is a 35% chance that one of your players will get injured when you ‘sim’ a game, which we all do, lets face it. This is ridiculous, but I could live with it if the injuries weren’t Medial Collateral Ligaments and had my star striker out for 6 months. Niggles and knocks= okay. Limbs hanging off by threads= not cool.
13. OTHER MANAGERS
The interview development was a good one, but it forgot the fact that other managers can actually speak as well. Other managers should talk about their team, or you team and you should be able to respond at the press conference.
14. TRANSFER TWEAKS
The huge transfer amounts are ridiculous in FIFA. I was once offered 147 Million pounds for Götze by Man City, and I had to pay 75 Million for Ganso one time. This is far too much. More realistic offers such as 25 Mil for Ganso and 30 Mil for Götze would be fine. Mid-season emergency loans are allowed in real life, and should be on FIFA as well to allow you to bring in an emergency goalkeeper, or another striker if your star man is out for a while.
15. KIT CHANGES
To be able to change the kit sponsor and the manufacturer every so often would be boss. It would keep things fresh so that after 5 seasons you are not stuck with the same kit. Also, the ability to tweak the kit design a tad, like adding stripes of changing the away kit would be cool as well. I’m not condoning totally scrapping old kits in the game, but small altercations would be welcome.
16. CUT SCENES
To add to the theatre of the game, small cut scenes showing the players and fans arriving at the stadium, the players in the dressing room, managers on the sideline (like in FIFA World Cup 2010) and better and more varied trophy celebrations would be awesome.
17. FIRING MANAGERS
Other managers in the league getting fired and the clubs approaching you to take over would be cool and not too hard to implement for the FIFA fellas.
18. SPONSORS
You should be able to choose a sponsor deal at the start of each season and et subsequent money from the deal in relation to how well you do. This sponsor logo should be seen in the home stadium and behind you when you’re giving interviews at press conferences.
19. MORE IN DEPTH INTERVIEWS AND PRESS CONFERENCES
The interview thing in FIFA 12 was cool, but vague and limited. A full blown press conference where you are asked various questions from the media about tactics, players and the other manager and you can answer with some set responses would be a massive improvement.
20. MORE REALISTIC FAN REACTIONS IN THE CROWD
Instead of having the crowd made up of blank-faced idiots who jump continuously for 90 mins, make it so that they walk out before the end of the game when your losing, or spur you on with louder singing when your drawing, or cheer vociferously when you’re winning a final or something major. Whatever FIFA do, more reactive fan behavior is needed.
Overall, the FIFA Manager Mode needs a few tweaks to make the game a lot more appealing to gamers like me. Despite the fact that it is almost assured that FIFA will not include a whole bunch of these suggestions, as they need some stuff to improve later games, it is still nice to speculate! Thanks for reading guys and feel free to post your own suggestions of what you want to see improved in FIFA 13 in general in the comments section below.
