Why the fifties?
I think it’s natural, it continues or consequents with this other known era. It was made new things…. Through the war….. I think, the end of 30‘ and begining od 40‘ would be little more boring and mainly the difference wouldn’t be so apparent, so this is a quite natural thing, to we could see a difference in surrounding, but not too radical.
Will be repeated a genre cliché?
In first game it was even purpose, that many things was a… I dont know if I should say an inspiration or better a tribute to some known scenes, but in Mafia II I tryied to avoid that, but there might be some moments what will remind something. On the other side, it’s hard to avoid things like that, I’m not the one who tells everything has been created already, but after all is true that gangsters have a limited spectrum of activity, so if someone makes a 2 hours movie and has one involution and we have a 25 hours game and have 10 times more involutions, it’s hard dont come with something, what anybody else didn’t come with earlier.
Many those movies are made after reality, was inspirated by real causes and if we wanna be real too, we have to stick with real things too, so the similarities are natural.
Do you go out from fictions or realities?
Rather from historical facts… I think that most of these known movies are….. Like Goodfellas are based on book which wrote real gangster… The Godfather is, I think, little modified Gambino family, The Godfather III is some real thing about Vatikan… So most of these movies are…. Even if we would be inspirated by the movies (like we don’t), the movies are based on reality, so if we are inspirated by the same reality, we have the same theme.
What would you say about the main character?
He’s pretty young, even not 20 from beginning… He looks like he looks like and that was a team consensus, so I’m not the only one who was working on this person. He wasn’t suppose to be a completely badguy, not some cruel tough guy, because it’s all about he just grew up in bad quarter, practically he’s harrow by circumstances. He just adapts himself for what is happening around him, so he could get some better life. It was our aim to do a…. likable person. In one moment, when people read a scenario, they said he’s disgusting, he’s too much tough, and many people said that, so we little ‚soften‘ him. So he would be more likable, but there are many other characters with the same importance, like his friend, Joe. He’s a…. we could say a brute, but someone could have more symphaty for him than the main character. Well, the main character, because he’s controlled by player, can’t be such a personality, because it could happen that the player wouldn‘t agree with what his character in game does, so he has to… OK, no has to, but we tryied to do him a little more neutral, so anybody could project oneself to him, do the player‘s choices, not just compel some actions like you must do this and this and the player even would’t agree with it.
How will look like the life in streets?
We are still working on that, but we sure will have more characters and cars on scene, so it will be certainly more lifeful. The characters in streets will be doing more things, the reactions will be more elaborate, but I don’t know yet if we will have a elbowing people in run. Well I think we have many various characters and even on stupid stealing cars they would react in various ways. Even differently than in other games…. like people in cars dont let you just throw them out, so you can’t just come to car, punch with driver’s head to steering wheel and bye bye. It will be more problematic situation, so if you think when you’re running from police, you simply jump in front of some car and drive away, you’re wrong. There will be some… minigame… maybe similar like in Oblivion. Plus you have two more ways to steal a car, you won’t learn it like in Mafia I, but it will be various difficulty to steal a cars. With the violent way, you can practicaly steal every car, but if anyone see you, you have a problem. And who doesn’t like this, he can take a taxi to drive him back, you can just sit in taxi and look from window, enjoy the view, but you can also skip that.
What about cops?
We made them more placable, because in Mafia I they was very irritant some times, so they are now more….. more real I think, becasuse in real…. Oh, I dont know, maybe if I rode too fast and tryied get away they would really started shoot at me (laugh), but we reduce that. And there is even less risk, because there are highways though the city, where you can drive fast without worrying about some chase. The whole system is changed and improved, I think, so you can now change the clothes to lost in crowd or similar things…..
How many guns you have?
I have to say I’m not a maniac in that stuff and I dont get the common question ‚how many guns you have‘ and ‚what’s a difference from the others games‘, I dont get the meaning, I know that some people are maniacs to guns, but I think that is clear you can expect in war game some M16 from Vietnam, Kalasnikov or something like that and some machine guns, and I think we needn’t to think up some nonsenses, so we have just normal possibly arsenal, which you could meet in these years. Yes, we have some special guns, but I dont think it’s necessary to talk about it now, like ‚we have a special mega gun, it has never been in any game before‘…. It’s a gun, it’s shooting and that’s important, so I haven’t any gun list, I didn’t count it. I think we were more working at using a common things, like you can take a chair, rip its leg and punch somebody with it. Like practicaly every thing…. OK, not every, but most of things around you you can use to some punching or throwing..
-And is there some ‚you must use this gun in this mission or you cant‘
Yeah, it‘s similar like in Mafia I, we tryied limit it, so you can’t go with 20 kilogrames guns in your bag of course. Some things are better for some actions, some ain’t, it will be told what’s the best for what and what isn’t. Is true that in Mafia I was a one guy who gave you a strict weapon and you had to do with it, in Mafia II it will be more open.
And what about money?
Money will be there, the player will get payid for missions, you can earn money in many ways, for example steal money from citizines… But it’s hard to balance that, because the less active players will have too little money and the much active players will have much money, and it could happen that player will have plenty of money, but we can’t help it.
-Are there some things you can spend money for?
Yes, I think there are many things what are really expansive and they really worth it.
Will we go to casino?
Hmmmmmmm…………… I don’t think so….. But maybeeeee….. It depends…… (laugh)
How does work the game world?
We’ve got a minimap where is everything what can be displayed on screen, it means we know that we can have in one time on screen 10 cars, 10 people, 2 shops a 2 quarters. And if the player is moving around the town and he’s leaving one quarter, the second quarter is there already…. Like one quarter is here, one quarter is loading and one is deleting… Of course the quarters must be placed that way you can’t be in 4 quarters in one time and that’s the same for persons…. Through the player’s moving the new ones are loading and the old ones are deleting, so all can fluently run and change…. Also you can fluently come into some location, because we new that player is near that location, so we are loading it in advance. And some faraway location we’re meanwhile deleting….

* Đồng hồ giới hạn tốc độ vẫn còn đó, nhưng lần này ko quá khắt khe như bản trước nữa, trừ khi bạn làm gì quá tồi tệ CS mới để ý.
* Tất cả xe đều có bình xăng và bạn phải đổ xăng khi nó hết. Sẽ có 1 vài nhiệm vụ phải làm thế. Trộm xe cũng ko đơn giản nữa, các xe bây giờ bảo vệ cao hơn, CS cũng sẽ chú ý gương bị bể và sẽ để mắt tới bạn.
* Bạn có thể đổi quần áo để tránh CS, ăn uống để khỏe thêm ^^.
* Empire City mô phỏng NY và San Franciso vào những năm 50, rộng gấp đôi Lost Heaven, với rất nhiều tòa nhà, cửa hàng,... Joe Apartment là căn nhà của NVC, đúng kiểu độc thân,quần áo vứt dưới đất, bát đĩa ko rửa. Bạn có thể bật, tắt đèn, mở vòi nước, và nhìn ra thành phố từ cửa sổ. Và ko phải loading bất kỳ đoạn nào trừ lúc bắt đầu.
* Các đồ vật có thể bị phân làm 32 mảnh
* Những gã CS béo chạy chậm và bạn có thể thoát dễ hơn.
* Bạn có thể nghe tin tức từ đài radio.
* Có 2 thông số chính trong game, 1 là mức truy nã của CS, 2 là cấp độ của bạn trong tổ chức. 2 cái này có thể thay đổi khi bạn bắn dân thường.
* Sẽ có chó (động vật 4 chân) xuất hiện trong game, chúng đi lại loanh quanh trên đường phố.
* Game sẽ ra mắt vào 2009
