We previously let you know about the details of DriveClub PS+ Edition, which will be available at launch as the first free PS4 game for PlayStation Plus subscribers (as in everyone who wants to go online). It will be a watered down version of the full game, sporting fewer cars and fewer tracks, but still maintaining all of the online features.
There was plenty of speculation regarding how people could get the full version of the game and now, based on a Twitter interaction with Shuhei Yoshida, we have confirmation that PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to upgrade to the full game at a discounted price. We pretty much expected this to be the case, but it is nice to get some confirmation from someone at Sony.
Both Microsoft and Sony have approached Bohemia Interactive about porting DayZ to new hardware, but creator Dean “Rocket” Hall is more in favour of the PlayStation 4 than Xbox One.
“We talked to both of them. But, as I’m sure you’re aware, Sony lets you self-publish and they don’t make you pay for updates,” Hall told Eurogamer.
“Microsoft requires you to have a publisher. They have no digital distribution strategy and they require you to pay $10,000, or whatever it is, for updates.”
Hall said that Bohemia likes Sony, and that he personally liked what he saw on the PlayStation 4.
“I like what I saw on the Xbox in a lot of cases as well,” he added. I’m not shitting on them. I’m kind of hopeful that Microsoft has just forgot to talk about its indie support. Maybe I’m being a bit naive.”
The architecture of both consoles mean Hall doesn’t see many barriers to getting DayZ running on either of them.
“It’s totally achievable. The only barriers are the ones console manufacturers put up in the way of indie devs,” he said.
“That’s the only barrier now. I’d love to see this on Xbox Live. I’d love to see it on PS4.”
A console port is probably inevitable but the DayZ team won’t start on it until the PC standalone release is finished.

Thankfully, when the game comes out on PS4 it won’t simply run adequately, it’ll look like a PC running on max settings.
Executive producer Clint Worley and senior art director Tramell Isaac revealed the news to GameInformer, adding that the game will support remote play on the Vita – while Sony has said that every PS4 game would get it, many wondered if the online only aspect would cause too much lag, meaning that online segments of games wouldn’t be supported.
Updates to the PS4 game will be simultaneous with the PC updates, with new content every two to four weeks. However, PS4 and PC servers will be segregated. The game is free, offering cosmetic upgrades and short-term boosts for money that don’t affect the balance of pay. It also doesn’t require a PS+ subscription like most PS4 games to play online.
The game currently has 4.5 million players on PC, with plans to come to territories like Russia, China and Brazil later this year along with, of course, the PS4 version.
