Ubisoft: Too early to say Vita won’t be successful

ubisoft.jpg

Ubisoft hasn’t been shy about providing support for the PlayStation Vita. The publisher came out with a number of titles for the handheld’s launch, and is readying a full-fledged Assassin’s Creed experience.

Although some gaming enthusiasts believe the system is in deep trouble, Ubisoft isn’t ready to go that far. Senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key told IGN that it’s “too early to say that Vita’s not going to be a success.”

Key said:

“It’s a really good platform and we’ve always liked it. The way it’s designed, it’s a beautiful piece of hardware. It’s got cool features that you can’t get anywhere else. And Assassin’s Creed, we believe, is the right type of game for that system. It’s definitely too early to say that Vita’s not going to be a success.

“Assassin’s Creed III is not the only big Vita game coming this holiday, and I think that’s a good thing,” Key said. “We’re actually very happy that there’s another big Vita game coming for Christmas from a competitor because we think that will raise all boats. It’s going to generate a lot of interest in the Vita this holiday season. Sony’s going to be spending a lot of money and resources to make sure that the Vita is there and it’s relevant and it’s doing well.”

As for the system’s future, Key believes that big games are what will help Vita find success, and that Ubisoft can help by bringing its biggest franchises to the handheld.

“We’re happy to support any cool new hardware system out there. Assassin’s Creed is exactly the type of brand that needs to go on there because we need to put our best stuff on that system.”

Survey Hints at Gran Turismo Vita, New PS Plus Features

psboth.jpg

A rumored IGN survey has been acquired by IGN, which may hint at Sony’s plans various upcoming PlayStation products. Gran Turismo Vita and more were found in the inquiry.

For instance, here’s what the survey said about Gran Turismo on Vita:
“You told us earlier how interested you would be in buying the PS Vita version of the latest Gran Turismo game. Knowing that you might be able to get a discount on the PS3 version of the game, how interested are you now in the PS Vita version?”

And PlayStation Plus:
“Imagine that as part of PlayStation Plus, every time you bought a game on either PS3 or PS Vita, you would be entitled to get the game on the other console absolutely free. So, if you bought Resistance on PS Vita, you could download Resistance on PS3 for free. Or if you got FIFA on PS3, you could download the PS Vita version for free.”

A third portion of the survey asks if the user would purchase select games either digitally or through a packaged release.

The validity of this survey have yet to be confirmed, and it’s not necessarily a confirmation about what Sony has in store. It’s interesting to speculate over nonetheless.

This May Be Little Battler eXperience Running on PlayStation Vita

2417y.jpg

Of course, that may just be a pretend PSP screenshot slapped onto a Vita frame.

The official site does not say what differences if any Vita players can look forward to, outside of more detailed visuals.

As detailed earlier in the week, both the PSP and Vita versions of Little Battler eXperience W will be released on September 27. Both versions will be released at retail for ¥4,980, and as a download for ¥4,480.

Joining the official announcement of the Vita version (only the PSP version had been announced before), Level-5 also shared a couple of screens showing new LBX units that will appear only in the game: Robin H, an LBX from English LBX Maker "Armor & Crown," and Orion, an LBX that can transform into plane form.

Tony Hawk Dev Working on Call of Duty

neversoftsign001.jpg

We’ve known since late last year that Neversoft was beefing-up its staff to begin working on a first-person shooter. But now we know -- thanks to Game Informer finding this website -- that Neversoft isn’t just working on any FPS. It’s working on Call of Duty.

Details are basically non-existent as to what Call of Duty project Neversoft is toiling away on. All the site says is that Neversoft has “molded [its] team into a crack squad of eager developers ready to push the First Person Action genre in support of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise.” It’s still hiring for this endeavor.

Neversoft is best-known for its epically-popular Tony Hawk franchise which premiered on PlayStation in 1999. Its first game, the PlayStation and Saturn title Skeleton Warriors gave way to an almost single-minded focus on Tony Hawk development from 1999 through 2007 with only a couple of games, like 2005’s Gun, interrupting the flow.

Neversoft later worked on Guitar Hero games, including Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Guitar Hero World Tour. It’s latest game was Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. It was purchased by Activision -- the owner of the Call of Duty license -- in 1999, making it a rather logical move for the studio to begin work on the publisher's premiere series.

Soul Sacrifice Interview: Adding An Emotional Aspect To Hunting Games

Trích...
What did you have to sacrifice to make this game?
[Laughs.] The question you probably wanted to ask is what happened after I left Capcom. I didn’t just leave a company, I left behind a legacy and the stability of being in a safe environment. Starting from scratch on smaller projects with a new team was a big challenge. I had to give up the influence I had to start over and that was a sacrifice, I suppose, in return I hope to rise with the success of this title.

Maybe this is the perfect game for couples then…
[Laughs.] If you play in single player mode you have an AI partner in the game. I recommend the multiplayer mode where you can play with your friends or girlfriend. Because that’s when the emotions come out and everyone can feel the sacrifice.

What do you have to say about the comparisons to Monster Hunter?
It’s natural that people compare Soul Sacrifice to Monster Hunter since I’m from Capcom. I don’t mind being compared to other Capcom titles as well, but I’m not trying to imitate MonHun. It’s always good to take in the positive points in a game that are liked by everybody, but in the end we have to create a title that is even better. Not just for MonHun, but the history of games have always been like that – creating something new and something new that’s even better.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz Coming to PS Vita October 23rd

We’re pretty excited about the upcoming exclusive PS Vita release of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz on October 23 – the game is coming along nicely! We have a lot of familiar Monkey Ball features returning along with some fan favorites, as well as some new tech and new goodies to take full advantage of PS Vita.

7249708932_c53f7ce133.jpg

Super Monkey Ball has always been built on the premise of accessibility and challenging gameplay – easy to pick up, difficult to master. We’ve made the transition for new players a lot easier, with a gentler difficulty curve in the beginning that helps you master the tough challenges that will eventually come your way. And don’t worry, we’ve got some punch in there for the veteran Monkey Ball fans looking for a challenge, from more varied levels with new routes and shortcuts, a higher degree of challenges, and the ever- popular minigames!

7249708422_cb83696bff.jpg

While the full game is built on personal challenges, the minigames have always been about multiplayer with your friends. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz enables both local multiplayer and online multiplayer over Wifi — a first for the series! We’re bringing back all the minigame hits too, from Monkey Bowling, to my personal favorite: Monkey Target. There are eight total modes to play and compete in, all of which leverage PS Vita’s unique hardware strengths.

7373281102_06f5116277.jpg

We’re making sure that Banana Splitz uses Vita’s built-in tech for controls across the minigames and main game modes. You can use full tilt control to navigate the entire game or opt to play with the analog sticks – it’s entirely up to you. My favorite feature of the game is the level generator that uses PS Vita’s camera. You can take a photo of anything in real life, then craft a level generated from the photo. In another twist, you can shake your PS Vita to set the difficulty level. The harder you shake, the more difficult the level becomes! Or shake it lightly for an easier time, the choice is in your hands. Creating and playing custom levels is a lot of fun.

Modder Ports Android 4.0 to PlayStation Vita

There hasn’t been much news as of late regarding hackers or modders tampering with the software of Sony’s newest handheld, but Shen Ye a young tinkerer, has managed to port the latest version of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to the PS Vita.
Untitled-1-610x250.jpgA simple post on Shen Ye’s Google+ page shows a video of the port in action. It doesn’t run well, but it runs. He’s also released a public link with instructions on how to get it working yourself.

This brings up the question, how secure is Sony’s portable and should they be worried?
