Crafting Tomorrow!
CRAFTING WILL BE IMPLEMENTED IN THE NEXT 24 HRS! - June 8 PST
With that out of the way, here's what to expect.
What buildings do I need to unlock crafting?
You'll need a Level 2 Workbench, and later an upgraded Engineering Bench. With those constructed, you'll then need one of two benches. The Weapon Bench, or the Gear Bench. Each of these benches allow you to upgrade, enhance or craft some items from scratch up to a certain level.
Schematics?
Each time you upgrade one of your benches, you'll unlock a handful of base schematics. These schematics are generally for improvised weapons. But a handful of them are for improving manufactured weapons.
In addition to the base schematics you receive from upgrading, you can also find very rare schematics while out on missions. These found schematics need to be unlocked from your inventory in order to use them. Once they're unlocked, they are consumed and you have permanently learned the ability to create the item it provides plans for. These schematics include plans for Blue and Purple quality items, some of which haven't been seen in the Dead Zone before.
What materials do I need?
For improvised items, you'll be able to scrap them together from the junk and extra weapon parts you have laying around.
If you're looking to improve an existing weapon, you'll need one of 6 new components that are only available from recycling other quality items (green, blue, purple). These components are as follows:
- Small Machined Parts
- Machined Parts
- Hardened Metal
- Heavy Fabric
- Treated Wood
- Weights
These components will allow you to craft everything from a Scoped AK74 to a Suppressed Pistol. The reasoning that they're shared is to allow you to make almost any Green, Blue or Purple find useful to you. We suggest you wait until the update is live before you break down any of your colored items.
Small Fuel Cost
Every craft or upgrade will cost a very small amount of Fuel. The cost starts at 1 Fuel for basic items, up to around 30 Fuel for a Level 20 Purple Item. The quality and level of the resulting item determines how much it costs. There is no timer on crafting, everything you make is provided instantly.
Random Improvements
Each time you craft an item that is Green or above, there's a chance that it will receive a bonus to it's statistics. There's also a chance that it will gain an entirely new stat as well.
Upgrading Items
At a greater cost, you can also upgrade the base level of some items. Again, the level and quality of the item determines the cost of doing so. This is useful for store bought items that you want to keep in your arsenal a little longer.
How long does it take?
No time at all. We figured that you've already put the effort in finding all the parts you need, why make you wait for the item you want.
