Filters have been added to sort retainers into smaller concise lists based on units and weapon restrictions.
This is a much appreciated new feature.
• Fixed a cavalry charge bug that would allow cavalry to maintain a charge bonus despite not charging
This sounds like it might be a fix to the charge -> move through tactic which caused cavalry to slaughter stuff instantly. If that's the case, awesome fix.
• Max. Bow Warrior Monks 2
• Bow Warrior Monks: cost from 1000 to 1100
• Daiyku Samurai : cost from 1000 to 1100
Bow clans are looking mighty appealing now, a lot of 175 range bow samurai veterans should now have the potential to dominate ranged battles. I will definitely be pursuing this.
• Max. Loan Sword Ashigaru 4
• Loan Sword Ashigaru: cost from 400 to 500
• Sword unit melee attack skill upgrades reduced
• Sword unit charge bonus upgrades reduced
• Yagyu Sword Instructor: sword infantry melee attack bonus reduced from +2 to +1.
• Drill Square: sword infantry melee defence bonus reduced from +3 to +2.
• Untrained Fugu Cook : Effect now applies to sword infantry only
Loan swords are now a supplemental unit rather than a core. This should shake things up a bit. Non-No Dachi sword units should no longer be able to get 25+ melee attack and 35+ charge, which is good news. Spear units should be able to hold a line better against vetted katana units in general, which should encourage more diverse strategies.
• Max. Naginata Attendants 5
• Max. Sword Attendants 6
I'm very curious to see where Attendants fit in relative to Loan Sword Ashigaru, Katana Samurai and No Dachi Samurai. It's nice to see we will be getting some new units in multiplayer.
• Yari Hero: cost from 1550 to 1200
About time these guys got some loving, 350 cheaper actually makes me think I might use these guys for holding key structures on certain maps.
• Max. Matchlock Ashigaru 3
• Max. Matchlock Monks 1
• Max. Matchlock Samurai 2
• Matchlock Ashigaru: cost from 400 to 500
• Matchlock Samurai: cost from 700 to 650
• Matchlock Accuracy upgrades reduced
I can see myself preferring to use Matchlock Samurai now that they're only 150 more than ashigaru. I think it's probably safe to assume the accuracy upgrades have gone from +10 per point to +5, in which case I'll probably forgoing them entirely. The caps are large enough that matchlock strategies aren't off the table entirely, but small enough that spams aren't possible. This should also shake things up quite a bit in siege battles, as matchlock ashigaru have been widely relied upon for defense.
• Scare enemies now correctly functions at all times in Multiplayer battles
A nice overdue fix.
• Great Guard: cost from 1200 to 1300
• Max Great Guard 1
I think this is mostly meant to force Great Guard to be used as a secondary general for +6 morale inspiration aura, as opposed to the "all you need" cavalry force that they sometimes feel like currently.
Siege Battles:
• Time limit added to siege battles (45 mins)
• The small funds bracket has been removed from match-made siege battles
• The Kyoto and Buatsui castle maps have been removed from match-making map pool
Combined with the other balance changes and unit caps, these changes are all appreciated. Small funds have never been fun, especially for the defender (1200 funds to defend is just boring). I will miss Kyoto, but not Buatsai. With matchlock spam being addressed, a 45 minute time limit seems perfectly reasonable.
New Maps:
• 11 New battle maps have been added:
• Chubu Pass
• Chugoku River
• Ehime Gorge
• Gunma Field
• Hokuriku Crossing
• Kansai Wood
• Kanto Plains
• Koshinetsu Ridge
• Saga River
• Tohoku Forest
• Tokai Valley
• All non-key building maps have been removed from the match-making map pool.
It sounds like key structures are now always enabled in land battles. This should really help to shut down campers, there are very few camping strategies that can stand up against someone with an armory, dojo, and shrine. The ones who still try pull it off, power to you.
Naval unit caps:
• Cannon Bune 1
• Fire Bomb Kobaya 4
• Siege Tower Bune 4
• Matchlock Kobaya 6
• Medium Bune 6
• Sengoku Bune 6
• Nihon Maru 1
• O Ataka Bune 4
• Heavy Bune 6
• Bow Kobaya 6
Naval unit costs:
• Bow Kobaya: cost from 850 to 500
• Fire Bomb Kobaya cost from 1050 to 700
• Medium Bune: cost from 1800 to 1550
Fire arrow ability added
• Siege Tower Bune: cost from 1550 to 3000
• Sengoku Bune: cost from 2000 to 1800
• Cannon Bune: cost from 4000 to 6000
• Heavy Bune: cost from 2400 to 2000
Naval funding bracket adjustments:
• Small: 5000 (no change)
• Medium: 10,000 (down from 14,000)
• Large: 18,000 (down from 24,000)
• Path finding improvements for Naval AI when near to land
Naval battles sound like they might actually be fun now. Siege tower spam will be inefficient, and there are only half as many cannon bunes to deal with. Perhaps we'll actually be seeing naval battles decided by clever maneuvering and boardings, wouldn't that be something? I'll definitely be willing to try it out again.
Overall, the patch notes fail to disappoint me. Now I'm just hoping the new DLC units and retainers have been thoroughly play-tested and balanced.
