Beating Tottenham Hotspur and Man City is impressive, but we should not be suckered in by the romanticism of painting Manchester red or masterminding victories against ex-managers.
These ‘Big Six’ wins do not represent the building of a platform, but rather highlight an essential flaw built into the foundations. They do not signify progress, rather the impossibility of progress so long as the 1990s remains Solskjaer’s core influence.

Manchester United's xG & Squad Review

https://preview.redd.it/fx5gr3a8h34...bp&s=61c8c1c8992298dddd0847c66f0af7f74909ae62
Statistic reviews on our EPL games with focus on xG stats. What is xg? Expected goals(xG) is the new revolutionary football metric, which allows you to evaluate team and player performance.
The xG stats will show the score and xG numbers of drawn games where we CH(*Couldn't Hold the lead*) and the other are games where we got conceded first then made comebacks. My squad's review will mainly focus on depth and players' age. *Enjoy*!
# Draw: 3 Home and 3 Away
v Wolves 1-1 A
.3 vs **1.14 --** *CH*. 66% possession, Ruben Neves cracker.
v Southampton 1-1 A
0.77 vs **1.8** \-- *CH*. 59% possession, Lindelof not tall enough
v Arsenal 1-1 H
**1.13** vs 1.7 -- *CH*. -- 55% possession, Axel gave away.
v Liverpool 1-1 H
**.8** vs 1 -- *CH*. 32% possession, Rojo? collective defence
v Sheff utd 3-3 A
1.56 vs **1.33 --** *Comeback*. 60% possession, collective defense.
v Aston Villa 2-2 H
**1.85 vs 1.3 *Comeback*. 63% possession, Brandon gave away offside.
Our EPL position could be much better. These are EPL matches we got draw where (CH) Couldn't Hold the lead. and two comebacks. That's 12 points lost, and 8 points because we couldn't hold the lead.
We actually have most of of possession, which is good sign to try to dominate every game. Ole's intent is there.
This just shows our xPts is 29 which is kind of accurate, had we could hold the leads in four games, we'd get another 8 points(24+8). XG wise we could've won 3 games, that's 6 points at least.
# Losing games: 1 Home and 3 Away
v Crystal Palace **1** \- 2 H
**2.2** vs .6 -- *72% possession (Highest Possession)*
v West Ham 2 - **0** A
.51 vs **1.28** \-- 54% possession
vs Newcastle United 1 - **0** A
.65 vs .**97 --** 69% possession
v Bournemouth 1 - **0** A
1.87 vs ***.64*** \-- 58% possession. (W*orst xG*)
According to xG that could've been up to 3 winnable games, where two games had big gap of xG, which comes to another 6 or 9 points.
# Winning Games: 4 Home and 1 Away
v Chelsea **4** \- 0 H
**2.37** vs 1.1 -- 46% possession
v Leicester **1** \- 0 H
**1.1** vs .46 -- 41% possession
v Norwich 1 - **3** A
0.89 vs ***4.51*** \-- 54% possession (Highest xG)
v Brighton **3** \- 1 H
3.85 vs 1.1 -- 42% possession
v Tottenham **2** \- 1 H
**1.48** vs .54 -- 46% possession
v Manchester City 1 - **2** A
2.07 vs **1.63** \-- *28% possession (W*orst possession\*)\*
Our **six wins** except Man City, our xG are better than our opponents.
***Overall***, had we get some of the drawn games and lost games some points, we could have around 30ish points. It's interesting that our team **prosper** with counter attacking style as we have pacey front three but we lost the possession. While we **struggle** when we dominate the ball against low block oppositions.
# SQUAD REVIEW
https://preview.redd.it/tof91eugf34...bp&s=ee1ec52b368944d37eea11bd408e0d1bdc7cab84
# Bright Future
We have young squad, our core players are actually in younger side, inconsistency could or should be expected, but we definitely can see their potential.
At beginning we couldn't score much after Chelsea game, our front three were new to playing together. Rashford and Martial been on left wing, and Dan James is new boy in EPL, so inconsistency should've/could've been expected.
*side note*: Interestingly peak age in football are around 27 to 29, Phil Jones(27), De Gea(29) and Rojo(29) falls in to that category.
26 y.o. players: Pogba, Maguire, Fred, Lingard.
Older players: Matic, Mata, Romero, Young, Grant.

Our **current best players** when everyone's ***fit***:
**DDG**(29)
**AWB**(22) **Lindelof**(25) **Maguire**(26) **Shaw**(24)
**Fred**(26) **Mctominay**(23)
**James**(22) **Pogba**(26) **Rashford**(22)
**Martial**(24)
avg. 24.45
Two year later the avg will hit the peak players age. Except DDG as a keeper, everyone will still be under 30 y.o.
**Bench**:
GK: Romero, Grant
Def: Dalot(20), Axel(20), Jones(27), Baily(25), Rojo(29), Young(34), **Williams**(18)
Midfield: Matic(31), **Garner**(18), Pereira(23), Mata(31)
Forwards: Lingard(26), **Greenwood**(18), Gomes(19), Chong(18)
Notable youngsters:
Brandon 'the passion' Williams
James 'Carrick's son' Garner
Mason 'RvP' Greenwood
# The Thin Bench
GK: Romero, Grant
Arguably one of the best GK cover.
RB: Dalot -- CB: Axel, Jones, Baily, Rojo -- LB: Young, Williams
Our second team defense have an adequate players to cover the first team. Without considering the injury prone players such as Dalot, Jones, Baily, Rojo. We have depth in the defense area. Unexpectedly Young is super fit is a passionate leader we need, while Williams shows great potential he's still inexperienced.
CM/DM: Matic, Garner
Ageing Matic hasbeen sidelined, but could've been the better cover coming from last year performance to promising Garner. *oooooffff*....
CAM: Pereira, Mata, Lingard, Gomes
Pereira is versatile man he could cover CAM, CM, W, while versatile is a big plus, overall he couldn't really answer Ole's faith. Mata is the role model needed for the younguns. Lingard been up and down, shows up recently. Gomes shows great promise but contract running down could be affecting his game time.
Wings: ..Chong..
Chong is our only real cover for both wings. Works hard but no end ball. *oooffffff*...
CF: Greenwood
Greenwood shows great potential, but might be asking too much from the youngster to cover a young squad. *ooooffffff*...
# Conclusion
Our position on PL table could be better. xG wise we deserve 5 win out 6 won games(15), 3 win out of 6 drawn games(9+3), 3 win out of 4 lost games(9), **our points could be 36,** that's 3rd on the current table. Of course not considering other teams' xGs and xPts.
With how inexperienced and rather **thin** our bench is, a reinforcement in certain areas are definitely needed. While some of our Cam are versatile and could play as winger, they're not. CF is definitely in need of someone.
Consistency is the main block for the squad, for a tight league as EPL this just shows our young core players are not there yet. But the future is promising, patient is definitely key, our young squad can only get better!

Post's extra:
Sorry for long post, it's my first one! This was actually only about draw xGs and was going to discussion, then it keeps adding the topics, so might as well make a post about it. Aside the limited words and lots of grammars' mistakes. Hope you enjoyed the post! GGMU!

Extra's extra:
*"oooffffff" I used this expression from a country i used to live in, we used this expression to show unsatisfactory to something.*
xG is rather new stat model, Here's \[longer explanation\]([ttps://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/8a8mhp/oc\_an\_introductory\_guide\_to\_the\_xg\_statistic\_the/](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/8a8mhp/oc_an_introductory_guide_to_the_xg_statistic_the/) ) of it. My mom used to say, "In football anything can happen because the ball is round".
