As someone who played this game in the last weeks I'm going to answer some questions you might are interested, if you don't own the game yet and want to know if it's good or bad.
What is this game about?
I would describe this game as a mix of:
M&B + Diablo/PoE + own unique asian artstyle
If you know games like
Battle Brothers or
Kenshi, they might can be compared as well.
Why M&B?
- walk through the land with your Squad,
- kill bandit groups or raid caravans,
- do quests,
- recruit different kind of troops & upgrade them,
- trade to get rich,
- siege to conquer a town (or everything),
- war/ally with factions,
- build your own faction or join one,
- start a romance with a female character,
- recruit heroes
Why PoE/Diablo?
- grind dungeons/caves for legendary items (& monsters like dragon/demon/phoenix, if enabled),
- level system & skill system,
- skill tree for talents (via prestige),
- challenge bosses to get better gear
- choose your character from different classes (or play as nameless to combine two or more classes)! Use magic, be an assassin or be a magic using assassin, your choice!
Is the game fun in the long run and does it have a high level of replayability?
I would say
yes.
There are three reasons for it.
The first and most important one is the
legacy system.
You can do specific challenges, clear caves, conquer towns and get their treasures to get legacy points. These legacy points can be used to get benefits on your next run. If you have enough legacy points you can unluck the nameless class, where you are able to combine two or more classes like mentioned above. Playing a different class makes this game more replayable because it won't be the same like the last run since you will have a different playstyle and different skills. Combining them makes it even more replayable.
The second one is the
increased unlimited difficulty.
Once you finish the main quest and win the final fight you can increase the difficulty of your next run by +1. There is no limit. This also gives you legacy points.
The third one is the
enableable expert mode, where you only have one savegame.
At first this one gives you legacy points as well. It also makes this game harder in a way, that everything that happens is irreversible. It prevents you from save scum, which I really recommend. You might not win all battles. Losing is part of the game, but you will get stronger and stronger.
Would I recommend this game in it's current state?
Yes!
If you like the games listed above you will definitely have fun here.
The start can be a bit hard but once you are into it, you will be on a roll.
The price is really cheap for what it is offering already.
But keep in mind that it's early access, you will encounter one or the other bug.
The game has a high risk of addiction. I played it too long in a row and got red eyes because of that!
