New Version (FORCED UPGRADE) of Bejeweled Blitz for PC!
Apparently, PopCap has released a new version of Bejeweled Blitz for PC, version 1.0.9.7400. This is a mandatory forced upgrade, as when starting any older version of the game, you'll get an error message that "Your client is out of date!" (and it won't let you login or play online).
Anyways, all that this new "great" and "grand" mandatory updated version adds is a "Boost Auto-Renew" feature within the game's options menu.
Yep... *NO* special gems (cat's eye/cat's arse/moon/or otherwise), *NO* free "slot machine" coin spin; like in the Facebook ShockWave Flash browser-based version... and OF COURSE, sharing medals, uploading replays, and creating replay movies *STILL* does *NOT* function!
Oh, but... PopCrap added that "great" "Boost Auto-Renew" feature. Yeah right... "BUY COINS! BUY COINS! BUY COINS! BUY COINS!" <AARRGGHH>!
Bejeweled Blitz v1.0.9.7400 installer, direct from PopCap's web site -> http://downloads.popcap.com/www/popcap_downloads/BejeweledBlitzSetup_10x.exe
P.S. What I did:
1 - Backup my existing "Users" directory ("C:\Program Files\PopCap Games\Bejeweled Blitz\Users") and all of it's subdirectories.
2 - Uninstall the game, in Windows XP ("Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Bejeweled Blitz").
3 - Run BejeweledBlitzSetup_10x.exe that I had downloaded.
4 - Restore my "Users" directory and all of it's subdirectories.
P.P.S. The new version 1.0.9.7400 installs an additional PopCap utility:
"C:\Program Files\PopCap Games\Updater\UpdateClient.exe"
"C:\Program Files\PopCap Games\Updater\SelfUpdate.exe"
as well as a few more files within that directory.
Dunno if that updater will actually *work* for any newer versions though, but we'll see. I *DO* know that the "UpdateClient.exe" runs for a few seconds each time that you start the game, and then terminates (shuts itself down) after you get to the main menu screen within the game.
