Glen Schofield is the head of the studio working on the exciting new horror sci-fi IP Dead Space, and he was in Sydney yesterday to have a chat and show us some new levels from the game. Dead Space is looking absolutely awesome, check out our fresh thoughts on this game following our great first impression at E3. But first a little bit of goss.
Impressed with the visuals being displayed on screen, not to mention the technical achievements in the strategic dismemberment and zero gravity environments, and the amazing use of surround-sound, we talked openly about the middleware. The engine’s origins are in From Russia with Love and The Godfather game, but soon after that open-world mafia hit was released the engine was taken internally within the Dead Space studio and worked on specifically for the game.
Glen was very excited about what the engine can offer, and how malleable it is. Lawyers are currently on the job sorting out the legalities of officially naming the engine and an announcement on this will be made soon. The engine is already being used in the creation of The Godfather 2 video game, and following the completion of the naming process, Glen hopes the engine will become a key tool in future EA titles.
In particular he pointed to the success of Unreal Engine 3, and how it is the way other studios and developers have added to the engine which has seen it become such a success. We’ve talked previously about EA’s buying raid on the middleware market, and this is looking like adding another formidable piece of tech to the company’s incredible library. And if what we saw yesterday of Dead Space is anything to go by, we have to add this sucker to our 18 Best Game Engines of the Next-Generation list.

By now, you’ve probably seen some gameplay footage from the upcoming horror title, Dead Space; so you already know the graphics look impressive. But could you imagine the same engine being used for other games? That’s exactly what EA may be thinking, according to Glen Schofield, the head of the development team. EA is already in the process of naming the engine and making it available for other games to use, like The Godfather 2. No word yet on whether the engine will only be used internally at EA or become available to outside developers as well. Regardless, Schofield hopes that future developers can make their own changes to the game engine down the line to keep it constantly improving, much like Unreal Engine 3.
Dead Space certainly does look impressive, so I could actually see future developers using this engine as a jumping off point for other games. Here’s hoping someone makes a game focused entirely around the zero gravity aspect of it, like in the video above.

Dead Space and Godfather 2 will also bring EA other benefits than the normal revenue from sales and whatnot. Given that the engine used for them proved its worth, the company intends to license it and try to challenge even the might of such a well-entrenched opponent as the Unreal Engine 3, from Epic Games.
Glen Schofield, the one who rules at EA’s Redwood Shores, was the one to voice the official take on this whole thing to the guys over at Gameplayer – and he is officially excited about it. It seems that the legal warriors who are well-versed in this kind of stuff are already proceeding to bestow an official name to the engine, and it will be announced quite soon.
As for the engine itself, it doesn’t look bad at all; in fact, according to CVG, Cliff Bleszinski of Epic Games seems to have mistaken it for the Unreal Engine 3 – but there’s no hard evidence to support that actually happened at some trade show or other. Anyway, the engine of Dead Space and Godfather 2 originates from the first Godfather game and From Russia to Love – some old Bond game. We’ll just have to see how useful a tool it proves to be for multiple game development.
After all, it was high time that some brave young engine threw the gauntlet in Epic’s face - or whatever the procedure is in such cases

Anyway, bác nào muốn xem mặt nhân vật chính thì mời chơi lại New Game, lúc cả đám bắt đầu gặp tai nạn, lúc đó camera quay được 360 độ luôn, thấy rõ mồn một mặt anh Isaac (thường thui, ko ấn tượng lắm)
Hôm qua mua Dead Space chung với Golden Axe Beast Rider, chơi 1 chút DS là bỏ GA vào chơi thử, thấy cứ như 1 clone của God of War, chặt chém khá sướng, đồ họa được nhưng animation hơi cứng. Nói chung chơi cũng được.
Mùa bội game bắt đầu rùi... sướng thật...
