The first episode opens with a view of a full moon and tails swinging beneath it as a voice explains what happened supposedly long ago. As the scene moves down we see a full view of a big fox demon with nine tails that will be now referred to as the NineTails. The voice continues to explain about how strong the demon is and how the shinobis fought it. Meanwhile, we see a bunch of wounded shinobis fighting, as a giant frog with a long pipe appears, with a man standing on top of it to face the NineTails. The voice then continues to explain that this person sacrificed his life to defeat the NineTails.

The episode starts off with the beginning theme song playing as usual. We then switch over to a photographer sitting atop a building asking Naruto if he's really going to have his picture taken with that kind of face on, but Naruto just edges him on to do it. After the whole ‘say cheese' bit the picture is taken, and we see Naruto painted white from head to toe with red swirls on him making a nasty face, then the title of the show appears. Now we're back at Shinobi School.

The third episode opens up to Naruto waking up. He wakes up to a breakfast of ramen and milk. He excuses himself from breakfast and puts on his hitai-ate. He then sets out for the next and upcoming level of ninja school. Today is the day of truth for Naruto as he becomes a real ninja. It is the Orientation for all new ninjas at the Ninja Academy. On his way to school, he comes in contact with Konohamaru, Naruto's temporary student. Konohamaru attempted to sneak up behind Naruto.

In the midst of the confusion, Zabuza ends up in the middle of their formation and if not for the fast reflexes of Kakashi, all hope would be lost. With two clones down and Kakashi with the upper hand, it seems as though Zabuza has no other choices but surrender or die. Having understood what just transpired, Zabuza revealed the whole situation and smiled to himself. In a flash there was another Zabuza behind Kakashi, Kakashi eliminates the first one, meanwhile the real Zabuza pulled back and went for the kill on Kakashi.

With Sasuke on the ground, Kakashi trapped, and Sakura shocked by the unfolding scene, Naruto takes it upon himself to take the lead. He preforms the Kage Bunshin and attacks. Zabuzas power easily overwhelms Naruto but with Sasuke in the clear, Naruto throws a Fuuma Shuriken and Sasuke does the Shadow Windmill technique in the hopes of a direct hit. Just before impact, the flying blade zooms past the clone on a collision course with the real Zabuza. Zabuza catches it with his free hand but not understanding the technique, the second blade comes right at him. Zabuza laughs and leaps over this second attack, but is shaken by a sudden vision from behind. To his amazement, Naruto appears, and throws a kunai strait at Zabuza.
